If there is any year that a player from a 3 (or 4) loss team, this would be the year. There are so many players in the running, but I give the award to Tebow. Not because McFadden isn't great, but because Tebow is doing things that have NEVER been done by a CFB QB. This may be one of the tightest races IN HISTORY, so I will error on the side OF HISTORY.

I may be biased, but McFadden is dime-a-dozen when you look at all the backs in the history of college football. Heck, we only need to go back one year to find Adrian Peterson. Going back a few more years, just in the SEC you have guys like Shaun Alexander and Emmit Smith. Compare him to the all-time CFB greats like Barry Sanders and Herschel Walker, he's not quite there yet.

However, you look at Tebow, who do you compare him to? To borrow a quote from a news site, he's got more passing TDs than Matt Leinart and more rushing TDs than Ron Dayne. Whether he'll end up one of the greatest ever is up for debate, but he certainly already is one of a kind.

Just to play devil's advocate, but it should be noted that Tebow is also surrounded by a ridiculously good offense. They have so many weapons it isn't funny. If their defense was anything close to ours, they would be so good it wouldn't even be funny.

On the other hand, McFadden's supporting cast is Felix Jones, Casey Dick...

Tebow may not be a fan favorite around CFB, but he's the best player hands down. I don't buy this idea that McFadden should inherit the trophy because he finished second last year.

You can make a list that says:

Carson Palmer
Jason White
Matt Leinart
Troy Smith
Tim Tebow

and say, "okay, I'll buy that".

If your list says:

Eddie George
Ricky Williams
Ron Dayne
Reggie Bush
Darren McFadden

...ummm, "one of these things is not like the others".

Just my $.02.

When I look at Tebow I can't help but see a "system QB".
Like Colt Brennan. How can you judge a QB like that?
And therefore shouldn't Brennan be a Heisman candidate, also?

I would put Brennan up there if he did not miss so much time this year. I mean if you took out all the "system" players you would not have any awards. College football has very few teams the run "pro-style offenses". Even Vince Young was in a system that benefited his talents. So they whole, throw out any system player, does not sit well with me. Still, I give the award to Tebow for having a year for the history books!

Query: haven't there been some other qbs since - oh - the inception of college football - that had been surrounded by ridiculously good offensive personnel?

Assuming that is so, why is Tim the only one to score 22 rushing and 29 passing TDs in one year. E-V-E-R

Pretty damn good "system" 'ole Urban's got there...

If there is a MVP component to the Heisman, you have to give serious consideration to what Dixon means to Oregon.

If I had a vote that counted, I'd probably give it to McFadden. But, I can't help but admit the numbers Tebow's put up are insane. I was arguing with a couple friends about Tebow, and one of them made the comment that "most his TDs come on 1 or 2 yard dives at the GL" Now, I don't know if this is true or not, but even if it is, my other friend's response made the observation irrelevant.... "How does that matter? He's scored more TDs than any RB in the SEC ever... more than Walker... More than Bo... More than McFadden.. if those guys were so great, and they were, you'd think they'd be getting the ball inside the 5 as often as Tebow does"

That said, I'd still go with McFadden.

Tebow is surrounded with talent second to none in college football.
Now, you take Percy Harvin out of that offense, Tebow starts looking pretty mediocre. The whole offense does. Tebow is not fast like McFadden.
Or elusive like Dixon. At the goal line he's a force like a big old fullback.
But, I maintain he's a product of a system. Just look at how well that system worked at Utah! It got that QB
(Alex Smith), some Heisman talk. And he didn't weigh 250 lbs.

Oregon does have some talent, but injuries really cost that team and Dixon was carrying the load at the end.

That stat is one thing that annoys me. What does it matter how he scores the touchdowns? As far as I'm concerned, 22 rushing and 29 passing is identical to 51 touchdowns.
But that's just nitpicky.

And obviously there have been QB's surrounded by ridiculously good offensive potential, and that helped most of them win the Heisman.

Just like there's no doubt Tebow is obviously a complete monster.
The point I was trying to make is just that Tebow is a monster, and McFadden is a monster. McFadden is a monster who led a FAAAR worse team to a win over LSU single handedly, whereas Tebow is a monster who couldn't quite do it.

If i was voting, I'd have to think really long and hard on who I'd want to vote for. And, in the end, I'd probably end up giving it to Dennis Dixon, because I don't think I've ever seen one team collapse so bad by losing their quarterback. 0 points.. against... a team that lost to ND?!?!?!

Tebow would revolutionize that Oregon offense much like Tebow.
As far as Oregon's talent, Stewart is a BIG TIME rb, and they have pretty solid talent at wideout.
Tebow has very nice talent outside, but where is his RB? Meyer has to use his QB & WR to run the ball. That may change with Emanuel Moody next year.
