I sure we hope we don't start seeing statements, that we should chill out because we're undefeated. That argument is good to use if all we want to win is Big 10 championships. This defense isn't looking NC caliber, and though I'm ecstatic for Alabama losing, in all honesty, our defense doesn't look ready to face FSU, Alabama, or even auburn. A lot of work needs to be done, and not only fickell and withers deserve blame, but Coombs too. When a QB who has been one of the worst performers in the conference(if not the nation) drops 450+ yards and 4tds on you, it's definitely nut check time for all the defensive coaches, especially the ones coaching the secondary. We have a lot of talent on D, yet we're still playing soft ass zone, yet every team that's beaten scUM has blitzed the hell out of Gardner and not let him get set. Jameis Winston is playing like he's in a video game, is insanely accurate, and doesn't get rattled. But before that mess, we need to worry about Connor cook. I could see MSU actually getting in a shootout with this defense, they played that bad today.

You know Dantonio and Bollman will have some wrinkles too. If there is one game walrus will shake it up, it'll be this one.
I dont know what to think of the D right now. Tackling was terrible, shedding blocks was terrible, but the constant soft calls were pretty bad too. Gardner can shred teams if he gets time. We looked like Indiana today.
somebody please tell me Curtis Grant will be back this week.

I am not worried about anything creative Bollman can come up with. I have seem that before.

I just hate the 10 yard cushion we give the receivers. It not only makes them wide open, but it also gives them plenty of room to run after they catch it. Oh yea, and leaving the tight ends wide open in the middle of the field is also annoying.

Obviously Sparty could beat us. But you are right that Winston will carve this defense up unless serious changes and improvement are made. The defense is offensive.

Part of it is scheme. The gameplan today should have been way more aggressive. We need to get more creative with our blitzing, and maybe run more stunts. And while doing that, play some man coverage. Not let people sit right in our soft zone wide open.

You look at the secondary and think well maybe it's a talent issue, but it really isint. CJ Barnett has been here forever, and was a starter on the last real silver bullet defense (2010), before he tore his ACL against da U. Roby is an NFL player. Grant has played solid. So the only hole in the secondary is the other safety spot. I think Tyvis Powell still needs to improve.

We're lacking talent and depth at LB, outside of Shazier. It's not like Fickell is a bad LB coach, he's coached a lot of great LBs over the years. We've just had a lot of misses in recruiting going back to the 2009 class. We need to hope that guys like Trey Johnson, Mike Mitchell, Kyle Berger, Dante Booker, and hopefully Raekwon McMillan can help us sooner than later. If Shazier leaves for the NFL after this year, we're in big trouble next season.

K2, shazier is as good as gone. He's a 1st round talent.
And to be honest, with auburn beating Alabama, and osu BARELY beating scUM (rivalry game or not) it is not out of the realm of possibility that auburn jumps osu. Especially with the defense's showing. This shouldve been a statement game, and it was... for scUM

Rewatched the game our technique in the secondary sucks add that to being undisciplined..DO YOUR JOB and have the confidence the player next to you will do theirs. This D cries for a leader..someone who knows everyones assignments and has the Cache to command the respect of the team.

There is no moral victory for ttun yesterday. All they now see is that their ineptitude ultimately propelled OSU to the title game. And no, the Sec champ won't jump them.

This is the worst OSU defense I've ever seen. Something needs fixed, and I have very little hope that a fix is coming this season. Somehow, we get 4 and 5-star recruits and turn it into a 2-star defense. Usually that leads you to believe the coaching is not up to OSU standards. Not saying Fickel should go. Not saying Withers should go. Not saying they should stay either. Meyer needs to figure it out and fix it before 2014 season.. This is unacceptable, and the 2014 defense needs to be substantially better.
