The linebackers we have are primarily run stoppers. They were not recruited for their pass defense. Some weakness in that area is to be expected.

LBs all over the country and at different levels of the game of football play critical roles in coverage.
Don't think we'll be able to agree on anything since you seem to be under the impression that LBs only raison d'etre is to stop the run. So I'll leave it at that.

I did not say anything of the sort. I said that the linebackers we have are better at stopping the run than defending the pass. Some linebackers are better at defending the run, some are better defending the pass, and some do both well. Not sure why this needs explanation.

Didn't Bogard get moved to LB from S... I would think he'd get a look either in Nickel or in base 4-3 given that he should have some sort of cover skills?

Great defenses don't have to pick between pressure or coverage. They do both. The OSU coaching staff has chosen to do neither. The logic is reasonable. You have a questionable unit, so you rush 3 or 4, drop 8 or 9 while trying to keep everything in front of you, and you play to not give up the big play. You force the opponent to not make a mistake. The problem is that the opponents aren't making a ton of mistakes because QB's are taking their time and finding wide open receivers against soft coverage or they are hitting them with big plays anyway. So, it seems to me that you tighten coverage and you pressure no matter what it takes. If they hit a big one on you, then so be it, but with pressure you create the opportunity for mistakes, negative plays and picks. I'd rather the Bucks D be aggressively bad than passively bad.

This. I think I said your last sentence almost verbatim in another thread.

Something's got to change. The Buckeyes are giving up 19.9 ppg and that's a far cry from OSU defenses of the past. And it would be alot higher if you discount FAMU and SDSU. A bad Cal team scored 34!
Unfortunately, the players we had on those defenses of the past are all gone, now. We need young talent to come in and develop, and until then, we have to make due with what we have. I expect Urban to recruit some DBs in the next few classes.

This precisely. You really hit everything concisely and the last sentence I am on board with 100%.
