It makes less than a pumpkin bit of difference what the rest of the B1G teams do in Bowls against whatever conference.

The B1G's black eye started with OSU getting killed in a NC game, it is only going to end with OSU winning a NC game.

What the flagship team does is the story. What the little 11 do is the back story.

THIS^^^ 1000x
The perception of the big 10 is based on our elite teams playing and losing to the elite from other conferences, more specifically the sec. Our sugar bowl win over arkansas was a win over the sec, but still did little to quiet the grumblings around the nation about the sec's dominance and the perceived slow plodding big 10 not being able to keep up. The big 10 teams barely losing to the supposed big boy sec programs still didn't prove much to the media. And the only way we change that is only by beating Alabama. And not anyone else, not LSU, fake usc, auburn, a&m, etc.

I'll give the defensive staff credit. They challenged the players' manhood. Vrabel called them "soft". There's hardly a worse thing a football player can be called. Most importantly, they were pressuring and being aggressive. And there were even some coverage sacks for the first time this year. Hopefully they will keep the mo going.

I'm not sure Penn State is all that talented and their scheme may be something easier for the OSU defense to handle. I want to see them play well against a spread team, and then I'll be convinced that they have turned the corner. Indiana will do.

Penn State had a young QB who was rattled early. Their back-up did better, albeit against our 2nd and 3rd string.

I would say undoubtedly scheme except we were likely going to get aggressive at home against a true frosh at QB. However, even Fickell and the rest of the staff is admitting they just need to get aggressive and deal with the big plays when/if they happen. Great all around play and while I think PSU didn't play up to their potential on those first few drives, our defense created alot of our opportunities.

So, it appears that the scheme has been mostly at fault this year. Since they've become more aggressive, they've been far more impressive. Granted the teams they have played lately aren't very good but defense if finally dominating.

It looks like a "pattern" . Last year we were playing soft. Urban told the defensive coaches to "get aggressive" and when we did we got better. Same thing this year. And the LBers are learning and getting better in pass coverage.

The Defensive scheme changed in the 2nd half against Iowa and now it appears that our Defense is catching up to our Offense. The difference has been night and day. This Defense thrives with bringing pressure. Let's keep it up SILVER BULLETS!
