What kind of car do you drive?

Would love to drive my S5 on the Autobahn, however sometimes I think the Edens is the Autobahn

Audi's actually scare me on the autobahn, I can be passing at 105mph in the left lane and I see those headlights coming up in my rearview going 130+ and I pull over into the center lane so they can pass, they blow by and rock your car a little bit. BMW's and Mercedes do the same but if I see someone going super fast it is usually an Audi.

Driving that fast for long periods of time is actually very hard work.

A4's are decent luxury cars but A3's are crap! Bad history.
Motorcycle owners will attest to the FACT the going fast takes a lot of energy and a lot of thought and planning.
I can attest to both! :paranoid:

Was in an '12 A6 supercharged on Monday as a friend had his A4 in for service. We had to change lanes / hit an exit and as I looked at the spedo he was at a buck. Never in a million years did it feel like we were going that fast. Same for my S4 and I'm sure Wood's S5... It's just a very smooth power curve across the board. German engineering is something to behold.

Net net, I'm sure that part of what you're seeing is a function of being around cars that are built for that kind of driving.

So a guy ran a stop sign and pulled out in front of me last night. Front quarter panel/driver side headlight, hood got it good in my wife's Altima. It's a 2001 with just under 100k miles...there's a chance his insurance will total it :(

Not cool. So we're going to start looking for another car, if we do end up going down that road

So we need a new car. No kids... Car for the wife's drive. Around or under 40k. What would you buy? Or lease? We have or will look at accord, TL, g37,a4, 3 series. We were thinking about explorer or a Tacoma (for me instead) as a possibility as well. We just haven't fell in love with anything yet. I hate car shopping.

My wife has a 2005 Nissan Maxima with all of the standard floorboard rust problems associated with this vintage of Nissan sedans. I mean really, floor boards completely rusted through in an 8 year old car is ridiculous. So a few questions:

1) Any idea how much it would be to fix something like this? (sorry for the crappy cell phone pic)

2) Would you fix it or sell the car assuming that something that big can't come alone

3) Would you ever buy a dealership demo car?

We have zeroed in on a 2014 Subaru Forester. Any Forester owners out there have any insight?

Road tripped the S4 last weekend. Started in Wheaton on Friday PM drive to Louisville. Drove straight through. Driving late at night was nice. I was able to keep a solid 80 mph pace. Very comfortable. Watched my son's LAX tourney all weekend and then he and I drove Sunday (he rode) from Louisville to Gaylord, MI (about 50 minutes south of the bridge). 10 hours, three stops... Hit the MI border and average HW speed was 85-90. Nice run.

Drove back to Chicago today. Light traffic. Solid 5 hour drive, two stops, 85-90 mph. Not much good about that state, but their roads are really good.

My '98 Century is slowly giving up the ghost, but hopefully it can hold out for another few years (more like 5) without needing ridiculously expensive repairs.

On that note, anyone have a good way to keep a falling window up (regulator bit the dust) that isn't obvious its broken but doesn't require opening the door panel (more concerned about cracking the panel than actually replacing the part)?

You may be able to borrow the proper tools from a chain parts store like o'Reilly's or VatoZone to safely remove the panel. That part probably resides in every junkyard in America, you could get it cheap. Show up on Friday at 4:30 with a 12 pack and the junkyard guy will probably install it for ya.

Or, clean the glass, push it all the way up and put Gorilla tape all the way around the seal. Half on the glass, half on the trim. Don't park in the sun, should be all set.
