What Brands Are You Loyal To?

Had the Islays out for about two hours in the snow today doing Islay shit. That's on one of the walkways. Most of what we walked through was ankle depth snow with some mud underneath when we ended up on one of the baseball infields. Got home and took them off, and my socks were bone dry Wiped off the mud, put the trees in and left them to dry. They'll get a pig bristle brush and be back to new. Those Conistons damned well meet your hunting needs, @AKAK .

will

So, the funny thing here is, I will probably get there eventually. My flat ass feet have evolved into 12 UK in most brands sized that way.

Problem is that makes US12 too small and US13 generally too big. I can envision myself coming out of this round with Iron Rangers on sizing alone. My apologies that it will likely be toward the end of the month as I buy myself a birthday gift. My hope here is the thorogooda and thin merino socks are just about hiking "correct" so I have room to go one level thicker for most of the winter conditions we face here in the Midwest.

Might I recommend Rampley & Co cashmere.

And for those of you who scoff at cashmere, I have in my ski bag both a merino and cashmere layer under the softshell. Once I forgot my ski jacket (hey. Its better than forgetting skis!) And was wearing a very light softshell jacket

It wasn't freezing cold, maybe low 20's but certainly not balmy, so I threw on the cashmere layer, did 2 runs down the hill, went back to my truck and switched it for the merino, I was so damned hot.

Turns out there's a Red Wing store in Lincoln Park. I was across the street and stopped in. I really liked the Iron Rangers, but the sole is more for the city than what you have in mind. To call it a "half-lug" is being pretty generous. I'd guess that you want a full on Vibram or Commando lug sole. I also get why reviewers say to expect a long, brutal break in period. Good boot though.

I'm telling you to go get sized for Higgins Mill at the AE store (they come in the full range of widths) and try to snag one of those Chromexcel/Lug Sole versions from the factory store for $299. That's absolutely the best bang for the buck we're talking about.

Now, any thoughts on down Parkas. I was actually at the Patagonia store across the street looking at theirs when I noticed the RW store. I have a lighter Patagonia jacket that's lasted over 20 years and still looks great and gets tons of wear. That's so old it was probably still made in the US. Anyone know how quality is now? Canada goose is out because I don't want to pay 1250 clams for something that somebody is going to stick a gun in my face over. North Face is out because I'm not a student at Fredo of Ohio.

I got nothing for you on down specifically. Patagonia stuff is still nice. With puffy coats of all fills you need to get your hands on it sometimes. I tripped across crescent down works googling, interesting lineup of stuff.

I tried to go to the Canada Goose boutique, but they had a fucking (slow) line in 10 degree temps. Fuck that. Like I'm going to get run over by an SUV trying to crash the walls and loot the place? Headed to The Drake.

Don’t know if I have said it here, pretty sure I’ve mentioned but too lazy to go look.

Bean Maine Hunting Boots (duck boots if you’re not familiar). Purchased my second pair, in my lifetime, about two years ago. First pair is not lined and I need to have the lowers replaced. Original purchase was ‘88 fall year frosh at tOSU.

Anyhow, the kids both have a set of the lined boots as well. The wife must have been jealous and just ordered a pair as well.

Love those things.
