What Brands Are You Loyal To?

Well, I was getting my shit together to go to the pool/gym today and noticed some pairs of my trusty pearl izumi multi sport socks (these specific ones are now discontinued) had seen better days

So I ordered 9 pairs of smartwool (and a head band) to replace them. 4 pairs of general athletic crew, 2 each of phd runners and light cycling. And one pair of midweight Hunters to get my hand on in case I need more

Pearl Izumi products have gone downhill the last few years. I’ve gone full Gore for my winter cycling gear.

I also got a free pair of the sock guy cycling socks at a charity ride, they seem really good, also made in the USA but they're blue and yellow. I mean I don't worry too much about "matching", but just contrary to my usual color choices.

I may pick up so more appropriate hues from them as we get into warmer weather.

Free yourself

(Though the couple Gore items I have had are well made. I do have one pair of pearl izumi shorts and they suck.)
I’ll check it out, but probably won’t work. I usually only buy clothes that I can try on, or that carry mutant specific sizes. 6’ 7”, 230 lbs., 34” waist, 7’ 0” wingspan.

Dude who put me onto the bibs (when that's about all they did one off) is surprisingly close to your size.

Did the lap around the block with the dog this morning in zero wind chills with nothing but a t-shirt on under the parka. It was a brisk walk, and I actually felt like I was about to start sweating by the end. The no pull strings at the waist bugs me, but I really can't complain for a well made 700 fill power down parka for 350 even.

Nicely done.

If we haven't had a Columbia shout out, lets have one. I have a bunch of their shit, and I don't LOVE any of it, but I've had a lot of it for decades. I just replaced a packable windbreaker with another packable windbreaker that I had the first one from time immemorial, there was just no more water proofing in the old one that I might have bought at a thrift shop 20 years ago (I'm not even sure)

Anyhow, I bring it up because I got a Columbia Flannel shirt in the mail today from my Mom (I mean, what else do you as a 75 year old woman in Florida send back to your kid who is freezing in single digits in Ohio. She's still convinced my wife and I are destitute and work minimum wage jobs. Now, my job situation hasn't been ALL that great the last couple years, but my kid has a personal trainer for the winter, so, you know, not all ramen noodles over sterno in the dark for dinner quite yet)

Anyway, this flannel shirt is heavy thick and awesome. Not a flannel jacket technically, but it will get some work in that role.

Wore the roughout suede No Time To Die Chukkas to the dog park tonight in snow and ice. Boots covered in snow multiple times, stepped on by multiple dogs. Got them home and gave them a quick wipe down with a dry rag, and they look like new. Those black roughout suede Conistons will fuck, @AKAK......oh they'll fuck. I'm considering a pair for myself. Might wait and see if the Black Scotch grain Islays become part of the regular collection this Summer in which case I can buy them from Bodiley's ex-vat.

After two winters of hard use, I used my covid quarantine to finally give the Pattons a cleaning and conditioning. No hard waxes on the chromexcel, just a cleaning with saddle soap, conditioning with some Saphir Renovateur and a light coat of burgundy cordovan cream which is full of neatsfoot oil. Came out pretty good if you ask me.
