What Brands Are You Loyal To?

Don’t know if I have said it here, pretty sure I’ve mentioned but too lazy to go look.

Bean Maine Hunting Boots (duck boots if you’re not familiar). Purchased my second pair, in my lifetime, about two years ago. First pair is not lined and I need to have the lowers replaced. Original purchase was ‘88 fall year frosh at tOSU.

Anyhow, the kids both have a set of the lined boots as well. The wife must have been jealous and just ordered a pair as well.

Love those things.

And they are still made in Maine.

I had a pair (probably from about 1988 actually) and I wore them out, duct taped the whole deal mowing greens at a golf club (I would wear them because they were waterproof on dewey mornings) so mine only made it about 8 years probably but they also went on 4 hour walks a few hundred mornings.

For sure, my original pair are for yard work / mowing the lawn. The uppers are still in great shape but the boot parts need replacing. I made the mistake of running the power washer over the boot part of my lined boots two years ago. I think I was charged something like $50 to have both boots replaced (the lower was removed and new ones attached to the uppers).

LLB is a great company with a long history of being great to their customers. It’s hard to not buy from them when they are an option.

I know they are still made in Maine because I was browsing their website yesterday.

So, @AKAK, I tried a couple pairs of Red Wings on. Salesman said to size down a half, and that they should be "snug" for the first month.

First attempt was the moc toe with a vibram sole. I couldn't even get my foot into it. Second attempt was an Iron Ranger in a E width. Man was it tight and stiff. I get breaking in leather shoes and boots. My Islay with the scotch grain leather were a bitch but only for the first few wears. I'm not sure that I'm willing to be in literal pain for a moth or two before something starts to become wearable.

Moths? Months are even worse!

I'm really thankful for your feedback on the iron rangers. I have almost talked myself into them about 3 times. My old man used to work around some pretty nasty materials. He was an industrial chemist, and only ran redwing. (I think had weirdly narrow size 14 feet too. So I am sure that was a part of it) I think there might be better options for me.

And it was too deep for me to wear my Bean boots.

Ha.

You may need these;

I have some 18 inch Lacrosse... That aren't insulated but some midweight smartwools and they're fine down to the teens for a couple hours as long as you keep moving.

The parka search is over. I'd settled on the Patsgonia Frozen Range despite it having this annoying snorkel hood that's 100% Kenny from South Park. Did a stop at one last place, the REI co-op, and they had a couple of Marmots on the clearance rack. Walked out with this for a quarter off its price and less than half what I was going to pay for the Patagonia. A few minor gripes (no pulls at the waist), but it's a nice minimalist black parka that I won't get shot for. Wore it to the dog park for an hour (20 degrees/wind chill of 8), a d I was toasty.

Plus with REI, I can wear the damned thing for up to a year and still return it if it's been cleaned and is undamaged.

I have a Marmot softshell that someone else can have when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.

Well, I was getting my shit together to go to the pool/gym today and noticed some pairs of my trusty pearl izumi multi sport socks (these specific ones are now discontinued) had seen better days

So I ordered 9 pairs of smartwool (and a head band) to replace them. 4 pairs of general athletic crew, 2 each of phd runners and light cycling. And one pair of midweight Hunters to get my hand on in case I need more
