Just finished Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane and am starting The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky. I've read most of what Lehane has written, and really enjoyed this book - it's original to what he has done in the past, but still has that authentic ear for the way folks talk around Boston.

Which begs the question:

Is it worthwhile to read the book and then see the movie? I am very excited for Shutter Island to come out but in the meantime I was thinking about adding it to my library at home with the hopes of reading it before the movie comes out. Frequently, in cases where a movie is adapted from a book, I have read a book only to see the movie and be disappointed...

Steve Martin: Born Standing Up

Really well done autobiography that explains his interesting path to comedy stardom, why he quit doing standup near the height of his popularity, and the way his relationship with his family molded his personality and comedic outlook.
