Just began reading The Rising Tide -- one of a set of historical fiction pieces by Jeff Shaara. Monty has arrived, Patton is on his way, Rommel is about to be furloughed for medical reasons and Ike is trying to figure out if the French will fight, and if they do, for which side. Extremely well researched.

Trying once again to get into the Left Behind series. Just not my cup of tea

Scoot, it is just not well written. Subject matter is fine. Any well written book on any subject is fun to read. That thing is just a bunch of cliche filled tripe.

Don't read The Road though. Too depressing for words.

Concur. Ignoring any theological differences and its exegetical deficiencies, that series is simply a bad read because of how poor the writing is.

To be clear, Cormac McCarthy is incredibly talented. Blood Meridian is one the best reads ever for wordsmithing and image conveying.

But the Road - I dunno - as a father of two boys, it was heart rending.

Try World War Z. Not really post-apocalyptic, but seen through the eyes of the guy who's writing the post zombie war analysis for the UN. It's not Dostoevsky, but it made for a good airplane read.

Overall I dug WWZ. Some of the stories were really good...some bleh, but overall it was a fun read.

Then I don't recommend you pick up Earth Abides or On The Beach.

...but yeah The Road is absolutely painful.

It'll be interesting to see how they handle it in the film adaptation.

Oh and a big Fuck You To Wil Smith for ruining I Am Legend.
Doesnt the Bible end at the apocalypse for a reason?
The tribulation & battle of Armageddon aren't the "end" in the book of Revelations.
