This contest has been really fun since the onset, but here's an idea.

Since basically everybody from both sites is in favor of a "Playoff" system to determine a true Champion, how about we try it here.

My proposition would be to "eliminate" everybody but the top 16 after this weeks results. Then, you (methomps) can designate certain Bowl games to pare everything down up until the NC game. What I'm saying is that you pick categories from less meaningful Bowls as they approach and have players seeded 1-16. Picks would obviously need to be done via "PM's" but I think this would be cool. For example, pick a few early Bowl games with the standard categories, and as it stands now, BB73 would be picking against BKB. Break the games down by dates, so that the Championship would be decided by player stats in the NC game itself. My idea would be for all the other BCS Bowls being for the semi-finalists. And after that, we'd be down to two.

Might be alot more work for you, thomps, but what the hell. I'm NOT you so I don't care.

Seriously, I think this could be fun.

Peace.

It's funny because I was just thinking today about whether and how to do a playoff. Obviously the top individual champion is going to be whoever has the most points at the end of the bowls, but a playoff might be a fun side game.

My thought is that (since this requires extra participation), I will make it an optional thing where the higher-ranked players have first call and we move down the rankings until we have x number of interested players. I also want to reward participation, so what about this:

Use the individual rankings to seed a top 16 (or 8 if interest is low). After the top 16/8 is set, then use the participation rankings to select up to 8 (or 4) more so that the top 8 (or 4) players get a first round bye.

Depending on how the field is set, we then slice up the bowl games somehow.

I'll let BB73 determine my fate, since neither he nor I are "playoff" guys. Indeed, if I should upset him in the playoffs here - my point about why Playoffs suck is pretty firmly established.... :wink2: But, anyway, if BB73 says "Sure" then I'll also participate in a side project playoff, but strongly agree that the winner of this, whoever it is, should be based - like college football - on the whole season's body of work.... in that regard, I'm not even on the same field as BB73 and should have no chance to upset him and move on to some imaginary title.

Great idea. Let's 'basically' ignore the last 15 weeks, and let who gets hot at the end of the year win. And let's change the rules after the end of the regular season, so the guy who pretty much has the thing sewn up now has to win 4 straight head-to-head matchups to win. Why wouldn't I think that was a great idea? I'm sure g21 would be glad to hear today that he had to win 4 playoff rounds to still get a win in the upset contest. :wink2:

And as bkb said, the assumption that "basically everybody" is in favor of a playoff is not true for either of the two folks you used in your first round example.

I'm all for a separate contest for the bowl season - that's what I'm doing for the Upset contest. There are then two winners, one for the season, one for the Bowls.
