And as bkb said, the assumption that "basically everybody" is in favor of a playoff is not true for either of the two folks you used in your first round example.
I'm all for a separate contest for the bowl season - that's what I'm doing for the Upset contest. There are then two winners, one for the season, one for the Bowls.
All you posted sounds very fair. I'm sure I'm not in the minority by saying you deserve to be the "champion" based on the season long tally, so lets do it as a "sidegame" and see how close the tournament comes to the regular season standings.
