I'm grandfathered in for unlimited data at 29.99. I doubt I'd shell out more for 4g, I'd probably buy a basic texting phone and invest in a tablet for multimedia needs.

If you're going 3g, definitely order the Amazon one for 150. You'll have to wait until Christmas or so for it to shop, but that is over 170 off retail, when you factor in tax.

Aren't ALL iPhone's for Verizon 3G? I'm just worried that if I continue with the grandfathered plan, I'm going to notice negative spikes in performance. Ugh. I'm glad I didn't just go and buy a phone a few months ago w/o asking some of these questions.

In regards to data? My brother has a "4g" phone w/ AT&T but isn't paying for the plan. We don't even get 4g data in our area. My dad gets texts and emails all the time trying to get him to "upgrade his data plan."

Good to know. I'm pretty sure we don't have coverage for 4G in Dayton, either. I really want the Nexus now. If I don't end up going Nexus, I'll probably get the iPhone 8GB for $99+2 Year Agreement.

I don't think 3G and 4G data plans cost any different. It's the 4G phones that cost more.

I didn't experience any data plan cost increase in migrating from the Samsung Fascinate to the Droid Charge. However, be aware that you'll burn through the bytes a lot faster on 4G.

Even when that happens, once you've gone over your allotted amount of 4G (that makes no sense, rationing out internetz and shit), doesn't 3G kick in for the rest of the month?

I don't think so. I think they just start charging you on a per-GB rate, which can get to be pretty expensive.

I see what you're saying. I think the opportunity to transition to unlimited 4G from an unlimited 3G plan expired in late summer. But I'd ask at your local Verizon store just in case.

yep, max is right (partly?), they changed data plans in the summer...

it's all tiered data now, 3G and 4G...

but, what you should probably ask is if you have an upgrade, and you already have a smartphone, if you move up to a 4G phone, I'm not sure if that will require a new plan (which I doubt) so I would think you would still be able to keep the unlimited...but if your adding a smartphone for the first time, it's tiered

because as of now, 3G and 4G plans are the same...meaning it's all one plan, so I don't see why you couldn't keep unlimited

Looks like the devs have already raised their middle finger at Verizon and made Google Wallet work on the Galaxy Nexus. Root isn't even needed for this to work.

It's a powerful smartphone. No reason 4G should make THAT much of a difference, right?

There are plenty of good smart phones running Android that one can get for next to nothing if one doesn't care to have 4G.

As someone who doesn't play games or listen to much music on my phone, I suppose my priorities and usage pattern are not like most people's.

I use mostly wifi for data, so I could care less if it's 5g, 4g, or whatever. I'm not going to be streaming movies or playing online games with a phone so I could care less about how well it performs when I don't have wifi access. I like the other aspects of the phone more. It being a true google phone is one of the main reasons.

I'm curious to see if Google is going to let VZW pressure them into not letting this device go to the other US carriers as well.
