Verizon & Android news

The nexus is finally out today. I will probably be picking one up soon. Anyone else getting one?
Just ordered from Letstalk.com, $175 for upgrade. 'Like' their facebook page and you get a $75 coupon. Ships in 1 to 2 weeks, they sold out a while ago, but for basically 50% off, worth the wait.

Only had about ten minutes between shoots, but the prime absolutely destroys the rezound. The screen is noticeably brighter while also about 1/3 as reflective.

It isn't too big to hold but it might be tricky for Swype. I find myself pecking most of the time anyway, unless I'm typing without looking, which is rare.

The Droid razr was pretty impressive as well but the lack of a removable battery is a dealbreaker.

I really need to try it at a third party store where I can handle it without chargers and theft locks. It is hard to appreciate the slim profile and tactile elements in a clunky setup like Verizon uses, for understandable reasons.

I'm not up for an upgrade until January, but I'm pretty certain this is my new phone.

One other thing I want to try at the third party store is listening to high fidelity mp3s on my studio headphones. my Droid incredible puts out solid sound, but not good enough to bother digging out anything but portable phones.

The Rezound is hyped as an audiophile phone, but given that it's paired with audiophile mocked beats headphones, I want to see if there is a noticeable difference vs the nexus prime.

I got to fondle my co-workers nexus today. It is pretty awesome.
Easier to one hand IMO than the Rzr even though its .01" less thick.
Response is the best part about it, going from my OG droid to that thing is insane when opening apps etc.
Fits in my pocket nicely as well.
It was nice you can get to the camera and take a pic in about 1 second from the lock screen, so fast. Fast boot time.

As for the rezound audio. I think its just a bunch of hype from everything I have read. Although I haven't seen a technical breakdown. Is there any audio apps avaialbe you could put on the nexus?

Jwins, not sure if you knew this about the rezound.

Beats Enhancements are Limited: The Beats experience on the Rezound is for the most part, enjoyable. With that said, the fact that it only works through the native music app on the phone and with head phones plugged in, is disappointing. If you load up Google Music or Amazon or Winamp, you do not get the extra Beats audio enhancements activated. As our world becomes more and more dependent on the cloud, this seems like a giant oversight from HTC. And maybe it’s impossible to enhance streamed music the way they want, but it still needs to be pointed out as a flaw.

Flash for ICS came out yesterday with the Verizon release of the G Nexus, along with Netflix compatibility. There are still a few bugs but it's nice to have a (mostly) stock phone (other than the few sneaky moves by Verizon) as an option.

Getting one next Thursday on my wife's upgrade date.

Not too big to operate with one hand and the feel of the device is very nice (the mesh back is a nice touch). It won't fit in any tiny pockets (hipster or lady jeans), but I don't partake in those.

The interface is so quick and I love the new camera app (it takes pics so quickly). I wish the camera lens & image quality weren't so mediocre, but the OS upgrade is going to be great when paired with better lenses. As a photographer, this isn't really a big deal for me, but it's a definite drawback for anyone hoping to use these pictures at all.

The screen is tremendous. It blows the Rezound away.

Battery life seemed to be draining way too quickly while I played with it, but that's what extra batteries are for (from ebay). 4G & longevity doesn't exist from what I've read.

How pointless would it be to get the Nexus if you don't plan on paying buku $$$ for 4G?

very. You'd have to pay 799 for the phone out of contract and many comparable phones can e bought used on Ebay or craigslist if you are simply using them as wifi only devices.

3G would still be available for the phone if you opt not to get a 4G plan, though. Correct?

And how much are the 4G rates at Verizon now? I just can't justify paying an ADDITIONAL $20-30 on top of the ADDITIONAL $20 data plan and on top of the extra $10 a month for insurance. That bill would get pretty lofty, unless I'm an idiot and I'm missing something here.

Ah I forgot about that option.

I'm grandfathered in for unlimited data at 29.99. I doubt I'd shell out more for 4g, I'd probably buy a basic texting phone and invest in a tablet for multimedia needs.

If you're going 3g, definitely order the Amazon one for 150. You'll have to wait until Christmas or so for it to shop, but that is over 170 off retail, when you factor in tax.
