They must be showing a replay from 1999 because David Duval is on the leaderboard, ahead of Mickelson and Woods.

 I think Phil is ready to make a charge..That being said it would be really cool to see Barnes win this! It would make 2009 the year of the underdog, after the Kentucky Derby.

after nbc showed that 72nd hole of the open last year, i always wonder why tiger and steve are so terrible at high fiving. :highfive:

it's not that hard! but it seems like every big tiger moment is followed by a horrendous attempt at a high five. does anyone else see this?

I used to go to golf tournaments but haven't for a few years now. The idiots on Long Island are reminding me why. I can't take morons yelling "get in the hole" on 150+ yard approach shots and heckling has now become part of the event. If I want to see screaming drunks I'll go to a Steelers game, not a PGA tournament. :shake:

good luck.....I hope you can snag a ticket to the SHOW....a lot of drama to be played out before this one is over....watch out for Retief who is sneaking up the leader board....

so i was at penn station where all the trains leave from to go to long island today. i was headed to a friend's house this afternoon. i stopped into Friday's to watch the open. there were a bunch of guys in there waiting for their train to farmingdale who were also watching. this guy and i started talking and he asked if i was going to bethpage. i said no, but i was thinking about buying a ticket fo go tomorrow online. he reached in his pocket and gave me a ticket and said now you don't have to worry about it. so i'm going out there tomorrow morning. from the looks of it, mickelson should find himself in the thick of it.

anyone else enjoy watching Ricky Barnes bend the rule-book in his favor repeatedly. It was like watching "Bad Golf My Way" by Leslie Nielson. Clearing rough behind his ball with repeated practice swings, identifying his ball in horrible lies and hand placing it back, marking on #2 of the final round so he can hand place it in the morning.....its pretty comical.

Tom Watson used to be the aboslute master of "bending" the rule book. He knows the rules inside and out and was known to use him in his favor, which any smart golfer should do.

What do you mean 150 yard approach shots.....half of them are doing it on the tee shots....I have noticed that the amount of "you da man" have seemingly gone down....Only thing that might be worse is listening to Johnny Miller state the obvious all day long....

I am right there with you on this, that is for sure....don't ever go to the Buick in Grand Blanc....talk about a rowdy drunk fest....of course unlike the Steelers, they have the Lions so you have to forgive them a little....

Good for you, and a great short story. Have a great time, but lets hope Phil isn't too much in the "thick" :chompy: I do, after all, have a $V-MIL on him.

Peace.

I was also snickering at that. I couldn't believe he picked up his ball on 18 at the end of the third round, just a few feet off the green.

But deciding not to play out of the rough on 2 after they blew the horn was just a smart decision.

I'd like to see him hold on, but I'm kind of expecting him to take 5 or 10 penalty strokes trying to clear one hazard on a long approach shot; instead of getting that solid finish with the big prize money and lots of automatic future qualifying. :tongue2:

He was really shaky at the end of the round. I think he is likely to fade today.
