Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

He might feel that the issues aren't to the point yet of preventing him from coaching for another year, but also realizes that the issue is only going to get worse. My point is you never know with growths in the brain...some scary shit. He might coach for another couple years, or then he just may might up and say "Fuck this, I'm done" tomorrow.

True...this could also be a hedge against that as a way to get Day more in-front of the recruiting thing.

We will see how things shake out.

Stop the Matt Campbell stuff. I would take Fickell back over him. OSU isn't a place to get OJT? How is that working out for Oklahoma, Georiga, and Clemson?

Favoring Luke over Matt Campbell should earn you a ban of this forum.

And how has elevating an unproven assistan worked out for the overwhelming majority of programs that have tried.

OSU is a different beast.

We should and can look at proven head coaches and not exclude the NFL. If this happens and I hope to God it doesn't and we get clarity next week but my first 2 calls would be to:
Matt Campbell and John Harbaugh.

Addazio? Good God Man.

There is one obvious choice to succeed Urban - Matt Campbell.

Day has been impressive but the lack of HC and Ohio ties is a bad combination.
OSU isn't a place to get OJT.

Best case by far is Urban gets his health in order and continues for 5+ years.
Lincoln Riley is doing just fine... So would Day.

Sure it's ideal to have experience but its not everything. That said we should hire the very best person we can.

explain to me this... 2020 class is LOADED.... why would Urban walk alway from that .... I could see him walking away after that class but I dont see him walking away from the 2020 class and what it could bring...
I can't see him walking away from, what?, $7 Milllion/year?, unless it's under doctor's orders. And the "just one more year" instinct is STRONG among college coaches.

Unless he just decides to say "fuck you" if Drake and Smith are both still employed here next year. Then we'd deserve it. And we'd miss him when he's gone. And we'd have no one to blame but ourselves.

If recruiting falls back to Tressel levels (good but not close to Urban level) you better hope Day can coach as well as him, if not we take quite a step back. The extent of Day's head coaching experience is limited to 3 games against vastly inferior talent so it's largely unknown how well he can coach at the top level.
That wasn't head coaching experience. Head coaching involves a hell of a lot more than what Day did for three games, most of which had Urban doing the head coaching during the week. Giving Day credit for being a good head coach because of the first three games of this season is even more foolish and unfounded than assigning blame to Fickell for being a bad head coach because of the clusterfuck he inherited in 2011.

Are you kidding me? Outside of Riley, Smart, and Swinney add Jimbo Fisher turning Florida State around and winning a national title. Dan Mullen at Mississippi State.

You come at me for wanting Fickell over Matt Campbell but then you name John Harbaugh? Get out of here clown. Fickell has been a head coach for three seasons and has already done something that Campbell hasn't been able to do in eight, win 10 games. You don't think OSU is a place for a coach to get on the job training? Well it's also not a place for the next Brady Hoke mediocre coach and that's Matt Campbell whose best season is going 9-4 at Toledo.

If we must find someone with experience then the call should go to Chris Petersen

You should recuse yourself from this discussion after that statement.

Certainly you understand the difference between coaching at an out post like ISU in the B12 and whatever conference Luke is in with his team (Cinci) where all his immediate successors had varying degrees of solid to great results (Dantonio, Kelly, Butch Jones, even Tuperville).
