Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

"Fickell has been a head coach for three seasons and has already done something that Campbell hasn't been able to do in eight, win 10 games."

You should recuse yourself from this discussion after that statement.

Certainly you understand the difference between coaching at an out post like ISU in the B12 and whatever conference Luke is in.
What's his excuse for not being able to win 10 games or a championship at Toledo?

Lincoln Riley is doing just fine... So would Day.
Do you consider being upset by your main rival "fine?" What if Texas also wins the rematch tomorrow? Would that also be "fine?"

I think it's careless and lazy to judge a coach on just two seasons. We won't know what kind of coach Riley is for another few years. 11-1 is nice in a weak Big XII, but he lost the most important game of the regular season. A game he was supposed to win. (He fired his DC afterward. Mid-season. It didn't seem to help. We'll see if Urban has the stones to make changes to the defensive coaching staff in the offseason.)

Anyone who thinks Urban Fucking Meyer can be easily replaced needs to share whatever they're smoking with me.

Wake me when Matt Campbell beats Kirk Ferentz. He's 0-3 so far.

You're citing Tuberville (the P is too far away on your keyboard from the B for that to be a typo so we know you don't know his name) as having success at UC? Okay, you have no credibility.

Can someone explain to me why Urban announcing after the 2018 B1G CG that 2019 will be his last season makes any sense?

There's still, you know, a bowl game (hopefully two) to be played?
It doesn't make any sense. That's why it's probably just more blind speculation/click bait.

My bet is that Urban parlays all this into a big raise and contract extension. If Gene wants him to stick around after the way Gene fucked him, Gene's gonna have to pay.

That wasn't head coaching experience. Head coaching involves a hell of a lot more than what Day did for three games, most of which had Urban doing the head coaching during the week. Giving Day credit for being a good head coach because of the first three games of this season is even more foolish and unfounded than assigning blame to Fickell for being a bad head coach because of the clusterfuck he inherited in 2011.

I really don't think I was giving credit to Day for that three game stretch. My point was that he took something that Urban built and made sure the ship didn't crash which I think any one of the assistants could have done. Luckily there are a lot of people close to the situation including Urban that think he'll be an excellent head coach so their is optimism.

Program stability. If a successor isn't in place, and it's an open coaching search, there's an obvious large-scale transition. If it's handed off to Day, there is continuity and a succession plan that can more easily be sold to recruits and their families.

I think Meyer is 50/50 on wanting to continue....this year has been hell from a media perspective. Just being targeted unrelentingly as if he actually abused women. I don't think he or Shelly really think it's worth it at this point. At the same time, he has a roster of 85 players and promises to those guys and their families. Staying through 2019 is a decent compromise. The current freshman and sophomores get 1 more year under Meyer, and then it's transitioned over to Day with largely the same coaching staff intact.

And in theory....if things go off-track, Meyer could always be asked to come back after a year or two away. My biggest concern with Day taking over is actually having Meyer's shadow over his shoulder after Urban has already shown a penchant for wanting to come back after stepping away.

This is basically the Lincoln Riley method.....I don't have any issue with it. Opening up a coaching search would create a lot of instability IMO.
