For as good of a coach as he was, I don't miss the constant media attention that came every time he opened his mouth.

Agreed. He has to answer Shelly for the morality portion, not us.

But holy shit the optics are what he has to answer to everyone else because your team is dog shit. If they won that game no one would care much that he didn't fly with the team, nor that he was celebrating a win by getting sloshed and getting half way to a Dirty Sanchez. Sure, it would still be a story because you never want your coach to part of off field shit, even if minor, but most people, especially those in Jag country would probably be looking the other way.

The news article I read was quoting the apology, and maybe it was out context, but it said how he mentioned he knew better because he lectured Lawrence about being careful on his bachelor party for this very reason. If I'm Lawrence I'm like WTF, don't try try to throw me into this shit.

Seriously though, am I the only one who is a bit curious what those recruiting trips were like back in the Urban/Tom Herman/Zach Smith days? Yikes.......

Before the season (so not about any of this) I talked to someone at Ohio State who knew him pretty well. When the NFL came up, he just chuckled and said “absolutely nothing he does to successfully motivate college athletes will ever work in an NFL locker room”. I think he, like most college coaches, is completely a fish out of water. And then there’s all this.

The whole thing is stupid and probably overblown. It might be worth noting that there was a fire in that building recently and the restaurant was shut down for several days. I don’t live far from there but have never been there. I really should go check it out.

Honestly the way they released more after he apologized. It feels more like blackmail. Also this seems like a disastrously was to get yourself fired to take another job...

There's no way he can possibly think something like that would be a good idea without the buy-in of his wife and kids and there's no way they would all be onboard for this sort of public humiliation.

They were probably no different than any other coaches recruiting trips. Let's not act like many of the coaches are saints. Most are egotistical and are treated like gods in their respective cities. After beating ND, you don't think that Fickell can walk in any bar in Cincy and do the same thing with a younger chick? The only difference is that Urban was dumb enough to get caught. IMO this is much ado about nothing, a bad luck yes, but if his wife is fine with it, who cares?
He was in over his head for the NFL job for the start, and this doesn't help, but its not the worst thing, the play of his team on the field is the worst thing. The president of Patriots was getting a happy ending, and news coverage came and went, because he was winning. This is only an overblown saga, because Meyer's team looks like hot garbage and doesn't seem to be getting better. I can't think of one good move he's done since becoming HC in Jax, other than drafting Lawrence(and that was a no brainer; though I would've traded that pick for more picks because the Jags have so many damn holes).
