Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
Stave just laid the ball down on the ground, he didn't "take a knee", why wasn't it a fumble and ASU ball?

This is where a lot of the confusion comes from. The only two possibilities were:
1. It was a fumble (evidence shows Stave's knee was down, but this could have very well been missed by the officials and ASU players at game speed).
2. It was not a fumble.
Argument of Fumble:
1. The clock should have stopped due to change of possession.
2. The play would be reviewed.
3. The play would have been overturned (there is conclusive video evidence from multiple angles that Stave's knee was down).
4. Wisconsin gets to line up for a field goal attempt.
Argument of Non-Fumble:
1. The clock should keep rolling.
2. The officials should immediately respot the ball, allowing Wisconsin to spike it.
3. If there is an ASU player on the ball preventing the respot, he should be flagged for a delay of game and the clock should stop.
4. Wisconsin gets to line up for a field goal attempt
Either argument, Wisconsin should have had the chance to kick a field goal. The officials just standing there without making any decision while allowing the game to end is bad for football, bad for the NCAA, but most of all, horrible for the players.

There was a shot on Twitter from the far endzone that showed the knee was definitely down. Wiscy got fucked hard on that one...

The interesting thing is he doesn't even need to actually physically touch the ground with his knee in that situation.

Yes... the ending sucked. By why in the blue hell didn't they just kick the ball on that play anyway? Centering the ball to midfield is not necessary at that distance.

Why didn't they approach the line of scrimmage after he downed the ball with any urgency? The Wisconsin players acted like the clock should have been stopped when he downed the ball.

Because both Wisconsin kickers suck. French has been around 60% for his career and Russell hasn't made one yet. Heck, French is good for a missed PAT once or twice a year too, so even having the ball in the middle of the field at the 2 with no rush isn't a gimme for them.

This is why I have no sympathy for Wisconsin. Yeah they got hosed with the shitty reffing.....but none of their players acted like they knew the clock was still running. The only player who showed anything was the QB....and he was just concerned that the ref might rule that a fumble. Once he was told it wasn't, they all just kind of dick around until 2 seconds left.
