Last year of his contract with Monchengladbach too. He's probably going to go on a free somewhere after this season.

The MLS is always there, if he wanted to return, or he could stay in Europe.

I hope he stays in Europe. WC '10 Bradley can be a solid contributor for the US team. Drifted off lately, I think Europe can bring it back in him more than MLS.

Klinsmann looks to be giving some newcomers a chance (perhaps not in the game, but at least being called up).

Now's the time to experiment (if he wants to).

Whatever happend to Gooch? He's been a total bust.

He's on a new club, so, that's probably part of it. (Sporting Lisbon?) Of course he hasn't been the same since the knee injury. Altidore also has a new club, and Clint Dempsey's club season starts soon.

Obviously, we know what Dempsey can do... I guess I wouldn't read very much into who's on the roster/playing or who isn't at this point. Both due to the time of year (kind of in between a lot of stuff starting up) and the fact that it's Klinsmann's first match, he's got to match up the "available guys" to the guys he wants to see play and kind of go through that process.

No Eric Lichaj? I guess from the point of view that there are a lot of unfamiliar or resurrected names along the back line it's understandable - it will be good to get a look at some of these other guys. I liked what I saw from Lichaj in the Gold Cup though and am hoping he gets the chance to take one of the outside back positions and run with it.

Agreed. This omission makes no sense. Lichaj is playing with the Aston Villa reserves right now, so its not like his club team is really all that concerned if he plays.

He might have gotten dinged the other day in Hong Kong. (I'd link it, but, no idea who the dude is, but, that may be the answer)

Grant Wahl of SI.com interviews Klinsmann:

My take: Now more than ever, the US has a manager rather than a coach. Perhaps not a tactical manager in the sport's traditional sense, but a CEO for the national program. I think he's going to be good at setting a philosophy and agenda for the program and getting people to buy-in. It's going to be critical however to bring aboard the right COO and other assistants to execute it all. Will it work? I don't know. I'm excited to see how it develops though.

Would be way cool of Thomas Dooley stuck around as an assitant for a bit. Very smart player and fun Columbus Crew connection.
