They're still [Mark May]ty.

It's going to take time. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if they find a way to equalize and this game ends in a draw.

On a positive note, I like the formation Klinsmann is running, seems to allow players to move in space a bit more. Now the US team just needs better players at certain positions around the field.

I hate that I love the way Mexico has built their team.

They are a really good squad and they're entering a golden generation. They've got speed in spades and just pressure pressure pressure with that speed. So fast. US stands no chance.

Easily a top 10 side and they look like they'll be getting better in the years to come. They seem to have gained the mental edge against the US as well. Fuck.

Their U-21 team is on to quarterfinals of the World Cup, too. :bonk:

I'm not so sure they are a top 10 team just yet. That would mean they would have to be better than Argentina (#10 in FIFA World Rankings/No way in hell), Croatia (#9, still say no way), or Italy (#8).

Maybe a hair outside the top 10 with the likes of Chile, Norway, and Greece. There's a few teams outside the top ten who would absolutely eat Mexico alive as well. Ivory Coast for one, France (no debate there), and Sweden come to mind. I only say Sweden because they would have no way of slowing down Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He's too big, too quick, and finishes with world class, which is something they aren't seeing by facing a side like the US.

JFTorres has been awful. I was excited about him a year ago, but he hasn't shown much in a while. Not even the basic dribbling skills he once showed.

I don't know what we're expecting from Buddle. He hasn't been put in a position to be successful. Barely get looks because he's covered by 4 defenders and when he does get the ball...well, he has 4 defenders on him. Hated that when I played up top.

That's all stemming from horribly weak midfield play. This team would be a whole different animal if they had a midfield worth a damn. Push your midfielders up so some of these defenders have to commit to defend them, and it frees up our ST's

I agree. No one in the midfield, besides Donovan wants to actually go forward and put pressure on the defense to make a decision.

Obviously, getting guys like Demps and Holden can change this substantially because those 2 love to have the ball at their feet. Adu too if he can continue to be fit and get action.

That, plus Holden has a rocket for a foot when it comes to being right around the 18 yard box. Plus he has European club experience. I think he was left off the roster only because of the new season kicking off in 3 days. That's about it.

He's still returning to form from his leg injury. I think he just got back to training within the last week. Could be wrong.

But yeah, it's definitely more important for him (and the other Euros) to be with his club as they prepare for the season. Getting consistent club time is what will take US soccer to the next level.

The next 2 friendlies will be a lot more interesting and worthwhile. I just fucking hate Mexico.
