U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

If the team is really contemplating transferring ownership to Christie Rampone, Hope Solo and Abby Wambach, that can't be good (even if better for the club financially).

A payroll of $350,000 is not a good sign too.

Guess all the Americans can ship off to England, Germany or France (or the like). If two leagues fail (WUSA/WPS), I third try might be tough on investors.

The abiding hope was that a U.S. World Cup title would trigger a renewed investment in the league, where all but one of the national team members play their club ball. Instead, a source within the league tells me that the salary cap, already a paltry $600,000, is being slashed to around $350,000 and with it the salaries of all but the glam players such as Wambach and Solo (who earn in the vicinity of $150,000). Things are so dire that the MagicJack, the team that features the most national teamers, is seriously considering transferring ownership of the franchise to Solo, Wambach and U.S. captain Christie Rampone.

Soccer president Sunil Gulati announced Thursday that Bob Bradley has been relieved of his duties as coach of the U.S. men's national team.
"We want to thank Bob Bradley for his service and dedication to U.S. Soccer during the past five years," said Gulati in a press release. "During his time as the head coach of our Men's National Team he led the team to a number of accomplishments, but we felt now was the right time for us to make a change. It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob. We wish him the best in his future endeavors."

About time. We need someone to really develop these younger guys.

This. Hopefully it gives more of an opportunity for someone to fill Michael Bradley's spot, and have him come off the bench like Donovan did in the Gold Cup. They need more flash from that position, which would let Donovan roam around like a RM, and Dempsey to play more of a Striker role.

They need a coach with a new formation mindset, I'm sick of this cookie cutter bull[Mark May], I'd rather have a 4-2-2-2 or a 4-1-3-2. The question is, does the US have the talent at CDM?

Not sure if they think he's ready, but I'd like to see Caleb Porter get the nod if they can't convince Klinsmann.

He won't get or take the job, but it would be funny for Klinsmann.

Mainly considering the USSF (Gulati) wouldn't let him revamp the entire system (Youth/Coaches/Facilities) when the two sides talked in the past.

If I don't have confidence in Gene Smith, I have less in Gulati to run an organization.

This guy thinks it is Klinsmann, pointing to Gulati staying in California for his announcement Friday.

http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news...dley_soccer_fired_possible_replacement_072811

Juergen Klinsmann has emerged as a clear favorite to be named as coach of the United States men?s national team after Bob Bradley was fired on Thursday.

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati will make a formal announcement on Bradley?s replacement on Friday, though it is expected that Klinsmann, who led his native Germany to the semifinal of the 2006 World Cup, will be given the task of leading the American team to Brazil in 2014.

Gulati made a concerted effort to sign Klinsmann, who has a home in Huntington Beach, Calif., at the end of 2006 but eventually settled on Bradley after failing to agree on terms. Klinsmann went on to lead German Bundesliga giant Bayern Munich for a brief and unsuccessful spell and has recently worked as a television analyst for ESPN.
Most coaches only stay through one WC cycle, so not really enough time to force change and change the entire Youth System (which Claudio Reyna is kind of trying to change now). But maybe technical coaching/ability will eventually get better years from now (for both men's and women's sides).

Who would play the CDM? I guess it would be either Jones or Holden. Another problem is we just lack a decent striker. Dempsey is more of a Centre Forward. Our biggest problem is the back 4. That has to get fixed.

I just hope Claudio Reyna's influence as USSF Technical Director has an effect not on the upcoming World Cup, but maybe 2-3 WC down the road.

Hope the younger kids (these kids are probably U-8 or so) benefit from the drastic change in philosophy in skill training that Gulati proposed.
