http://www.mlssoccer.com/goldcup/ne...goal-goal-breakdown-brings-end-donovan-debate

Great article on MLSSoccer.com about how Donovan has been the man for the USMNT during Bradley's tenure and also how Dempsey is one of our most prolific scorers. The problem is, we play Dempsey in the midfield and it leaves him out of the attack at times, when he really is one of our strongest strikers and really has a nose for goal. The graphic at the end of the article is well done also.

That's why I like the formation Bradley's been running (4-4-3(2-1)) without Donovan on the field to give Dempsey some room to roam around in the midfield to try and get some offensive pressure on. Our biggest problem as a team is a real legitimate Striker. Juan Agudelo is still YOUNG, and has a lot to learn. Jozy Altidore is inconsistent but VERY dangerous when his head is in the game. Would be nice to see the National Squad sure up either the midfield (preferably), or the attack so Dempsey can stick to one position (creating a presence and looking for goals).

If they can't get any presence, that's when Donovan makes his entrance in the 2nd half and changes the dynamic of the team completely. Should keep Mexico on their heels a bit. I'm excited either way. Like I've said, I like our chances in this game.

What has happened to Muarice Edu? Did he bang Bob Bradley's mom, and does Jonathan Bornstein have pictures of it? I understand that he and Jones both play the same holding midfield position, but after going up 2-0 isn't there room for another player like him on the pitch. I guess not, when it would have meant taking his son off.

I wanted Bradley gone after the WC - his managing was a debacle then. He had earned back some of my respect lately with the tactical changes he made earlier in this tournament and his handling of Freddy Adu. Unfortunately he pissed all of that away with his stubborn loyalty to struggling players like his son and his former players at Chivas.

Mexico is a good side and they Re certainly better than the US right now - but the US should have found a way to win after taking a 2-0 lead.

There was some good news to come from this tournament - it looks like Lichaj and Adu might be useful players during this cycle.

As a big USMNT fan, I have wanted Bradley gone for a while. His managing is often atrocious, there is a giant conflict of interest with his son, and every good soccer federation switches managers almost every cycle. Why should the US be any different?

Also, I was thinking the exact same thing about Edu. I really like Edu as a player and I think he is one of our better midfielders. It really seems like Bradley has a vendetta against him. I think Edu is better than Jones because Edu plays consistently well, while Jones is maddeningly inconsistent.

The defense was beyond horrible today. Mexico is a good side, but the US made them look like Spain. The lack of talent and depth killed the US. Lastly, Bornstein should not be on the team period. He has never been an international caliber player and never will be. I would take a hurt Cherundlo over him.

The US is a solid international side, but they are still light years behind countries like Spain, Italy etc. The US needs players players with better touch, more pace, and better finishing skills as well as more depth. A tough day to be a USMNT fan.

Freddie Adu has become my favorite soccer player........not because he's kicked ass the last 2 games. It's because he doesn't fall down like a little bitch with the faintest hint of contact, let alone when he's getting shoved around because the defenders can't touch his skill.

And I'm glad Jones had a nice view of today's game. Must have paid a pretty penny to get sets right on the field, though.

Who knows the truth, but if someone honestly suggested this, they should've been asked to leave the room.

http://sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-2022wcup-heat

Qatari organizers of the 2022 World Cup have denied claims by an engineer of its air-conditioned stadiums that FIFA could split matches into three 30-minute periods to help players cope with the heat.

Qatar officials say the idea has not been discussed.
Grant Wahl of SI (and others) suggested/hinted at a re-vote due to the corruption of bin Hammam and the entire Qatar organization (giving the United States another shot), but that's not going to happen. Just a campaign promise by Sepp Blatter and cash has already exchanged hands.

Again, who knows the truth, but I'm actually glad no one with United States would remotely think about 30-minute periods.

FIFA isn't even embarrassed by its corruption. I'm beyond amazed at the worldwide acceptance that this organization cannot be changed. Everybody just plays along. This is one of the least talked about stories that probably deserves a lot more attention from the likes of, say, ESPN.

But its soccer and it doesn't deal with 19 year olds getting tattoos, so who cares?

Certainly worth the time to put together a 30 for 30 on the overall corruption of FIFA. USA Soccer is at an all time high in popularity, get some Nike Exec's together with USA Soccer and throw a couple of million at some noted documentarians. Roll out the product at the Cann Film Festival in 2 years, see what happens.

Have a debut in New York, London, Madrid, Rio, Seoul....etc
See what type of changes you'll get then.

ESPN may be terrified of doing that because the company might be afraid FIFA won't give the network the television rights to future World Cups, regardless of money (how far fetched that may seem).

Both media people for USA Today and SI (Heistand/Deitsch) have even suggested that ESPN is putting forth so much effort during the Women's World Cup just to stand in good graces with FIFA for future bidding.

One thing's for certain, no one has enough guts to even run for office with FIFA. It's going to go from Blatter to Platini (which is bad to worse or bad to bad).

It's corrupted, incompetent and not going to get better.

I've obviously come to the conclusion that there will never, ever be an American sitting at the helm of FIFA and that's fine....

But I'm really surprised at how the European federations allow such corruption and incompetance to fester in "their" national game?
"Who watches the watchmen" so to speak....

I didn't realize there was a confrontation between Michael Bradley and Eric Wynalda.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20.../14/mbradley.incident/index.html?sct=sc_wr_a1

According to a witness who spoke on the record, but declined attribution, midfielder Michael Bradley was upset that Fox Soccer pundit and former U.S. national team player Eric Wynalda had suggested other players on the U.S. roster as more deserving of playing time -- especially given Bradley's lack of game time with Aston Villa. Specifically, it was Wynalda's quotes in an ESPN.com article about how midfielders Maurice Edu and Jermaine Jones had "earned" consideration for the national team with their club play that bothered Michael Bradley.
I'd kind of like to see a confrontation between Eric Wynalda and John Harkes.
