He inherited a once in a generation talent.in Andrew Luck and then fell into a perfect situation at SF with Kaepernick where he had the QB who introduced the pistol offense in college introduce it into the NFL before defensive coordinators had figured it out.
His entire QB guru rep is based on a Chance The Gardener like ability to have lucked into the right place at the right time. And that streak of retard luck ran out on Ann Arbor, and we're seeing the results of his actually having to recruit and develop talent.
I wholly agree with all of this. I just think that
any coach, not just one with a rep for “developing” QBs, should be expected to have some kind of answer at the position going in to his fourth year other than a transfer because he hasn’t got one in house.
It’s astounding, really. The hype train upon his arrival was fully stocked and barreling down the tracks and he couldn’t get ONE guy who could come in and do the job? That guy should be a senior or redshirt junior.
That guy, whoever it would have been, should be the answer to the QB situation this year. But he didn’t get one so still, the next year after his first season, he couldn’t get anyone to fill those shoes of the former GREATS

before him? That guy would be a junior or redshirt sophomore this year. He should be the answer. No? Well then Harbaugh certainly found a guy in last years class to sit one year and take over this year, right?
Hmmmm. Seems to me that if anyone wants to be a college coach and stick around for a while, he might want to recruit and develop a QB. Damn, Jimbo, everyone knows that.
His best QB has been O’Korn and even that guy was a transfer.
