Historical comparisons are never exact but in many ways Carr was the tsun equivalent of Earl. Both took over the machine that Bo/Woody had created and had a good run for a while but at the end things were falling apart. Both consistently did less with some pretty remarkable talent.

Keeping that line of thinking going then, the incredibly ironic part is you could point to Cooper as the the reason why OSU was ultimately more successful than tsun post Woody/Bo. The argument can be made he was the bridge to Tressel and Urban by way of the success he (mostly) had whereas tsun has made a succession of errors and may or may not be on their way back up.

It does reinforce my belief that any moderately blue blooded football program is one good hire away from relevance. This must be true because the opposite is true; even the blue blooded program are one bad hire away from mediocrity.

I tend to agree with this, but to take your last point a step further. A good coach hire can only go so far, he needs the backing of the admin to truly make a big difference. Richt in Miami will be interesting to watch, as a pretty good coach went from an insanely rabid fanbase with admin that are gung ho for foosball, to a bandwagon fanbase that hardly shows up to games and admin and alum with limited funds for facilities and recruits constantly being poached. Harbrau has the full support of scUM admin, because at this point they're utterly desperate after 2 terrible hires

Yeah, who stole Jax's password?

Well to be clear, Lllllllllloyd had good talent (more so in his early years than late) just like Earl.

By the end the guys they were trumpeting as superstars were vastly overrated (a certain cyclist comes to mind).

I don't know that I have ever argued that the man who lost to Appy State didn't underachieve.

Sounds like he agrees with me that Lloyd did less with more.........Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket tonight!!!!

I wouldn't read too much into it cock breath.
