Trey DePriest (former LB Alabama)

LordJeffBuck;1740272; said:
DePriest grew up a Michigan fan in the heart of Buckeye country. When Michigan started sucking, he began looking around for a new favorite team and became an Alabama fan about a minute after they won the NC. Some kids, no matter where they are from or how they are recruited, are just anti-OSU, and there's nothing you can do about it. DePriest was one of those kids. Time to move on....
Apparently, so did some key people around him.

OSU was in great shape before Bama recruited him harder. There was a critical lapse of contact, while Bama was sending the house. OSU had a legit shot and just didn't get him. Good luck to Trey at Alabama. He is a good kid that will likely succeed.

Lapse of contact is being confused with not being all over the kid. Ohio State recruited how Ohio State recruits. If kids want to buy the "you're my #1 guy" stuff......more luck to them.

Agree with HotMic. Tress & Co recruits in the OSU way. If someone gets their head turned, then so be it. If they have their head screwed on right, then it makes sense. Trey was an Ohio kid that got their head turned. Cannot see the 'glitz' of Alabama, but hey, I'm not a 18 year old kid. Next year, I'll betcha that we'll pick up some good LB fodder. That will then be the position of need. Good luck to Trey, he's an Ohio kid after all. Just not if we play Alabama for the BCS game.

I think RB07OSU is correct on this one...the BPRT understands there was a period of time where the OSU staff's contact dwindled to almost nothing for a few months [for whatever reason] while Alabama was throwing the house...and in the end that played into the ultimate decision as it gave Trey a chacne to build a good relationship with Coach Saban and Coach Sunseri.

Uhh does no one think that the fact they're in arguably the best conference in CFB or that they just won a NC factored A LOT into his decision? I'm just saying, a lot of people are making a big deal that he's from Ohio. But there are also other factors besides the way OSU's staff recruits. The SEC puts a lot more players on defense into the NFL, and are always near the top on draft boards. And Alabama is putting together some star studded recruiting classes, Trey maybe didn't want to play in the Big 10 either. All are legit factors, I don't know this kid, and from the sounds of it, not many of us do, he's a 18yo kid who committed to the defending National Champs. I don't see this as any different as when USC and UF won their NC and signed pretty much any kid in the nation they offered. Like was stated before, we're still OSU and we'll be fine. Give me Ringer and Perry next year and we'll be straight. :osu:

He is a good kid that better work a little on the foot speed or add 25 pounds and slide into the middle...this isnt as big of a loss as Jordan Hicks

Maybe it's the Pollyanna in me, but I think there's still some distance to run in this race. Tress & Co will back off if an Ohio kid commits to a B10 school, but after all this is the SEC we're talking about. I kinda believe (hope maybe) that Miller, and some other of the commits will play on Trey to rethink his position. Who knows what will happen. Meanwhile, the mandela moves on, but I'll bet a nickel that Tress & Co keep a line open to Trey. There seems to be much on OSU's side - Momma won't travel, etc etc, and maybe the businessmen weigh in on life after OSU if the NFL doesn't pan out. This one feels (at least to me) that it ain't over. A battle was lost, but mayhaps the war is not. Time will tell.

Nope. The kid's enamored with Alabama. He's not changing his mind.

I know, I know. I did preface by saying that I'm somewhat of a Pollyanna......and I'm usually the last one to know the inside poop on anything......but something is saying. Please keep this post # and you have my permission to throw it back in my face if I'm wrong :tongue2:. I think the depth chart for OSU works for us, and the depth chart for Alabama works against them, but as time goes by (it's only August, and February is a loooong way away) maybe. In the long run, OSU will be fine without Trey, and maybe the 'hole' will be filled by a super stud (this year or next) that keeps OSU on top.

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
