tOSU vs. USC 08 & 09 series

I find the coaching match-ups to be very intriguing as well. Carroll's defense vs. Tressel's Offense - Heacock's D vs. Sarkisian's O. These guys are some of the best at what they do.

The Texas series was intruiging because we never played before. The USC series will be intriguing because of the talent and tradition shared between the two teams, and what they have done for college football as a whole. Not to mention it is very possible that we could be playing them this year for a bowl, next year in the regular season, and potentially a rematch in a bowl game.

Is this 2008 match-up projection for the regular season next year, or the Rose Bowl at the conclusion of this year? :wink2:

I think Cushing and Maualuga go pro after this season, so don't expect to see them when we make the trip out to LA in '08.

Why no Malcolm Jenkins in your preview? You think he will leave early??

Well, I did say:

Both squads have excellent, yong talent to take the place of their departing CBs (OSU: Jenkins- possible early draft entry, USC: Terrell Thomas) in Chimdi Chekwa for Ohio State and Shareece Wright for Southern Cal, and both of these guys are getting excellent, quality PT this year as well to get them ready.

What about Chris Wells?

Do you guys think theres a chance of him leaving early?

Also, if we are fortunate to have Terrelle Pryor commit and come to tOSU, any chance of him seeing playing time for maybe the '09 game? Or is Antonio Henton going to be that good to have the job in hand?

I don't think Wells is eligible to leave before the 08 game. He can leave before the 09 game.

What are you talking about? Wells is eligible to leave OSU anytime he wants, he just can't go the NFL. Did Clarett teach us nothing?

Worst breakdown ever

Bgriff, that was the worst and most homeristic breakdown I've ever seen in my life.

1. How can you ever put Boeckman above another QB? You've seen him for three games, and he's only been impressive for one half of a game. And, as I remember correctly, USC is kind of known to develop pretty good QBs as of late. And if Sanchez isn't impressive, don't forget Aaron Corp, and Mitch Mustain (who will be eligible to play next year). All three were top recruits when they came out of prep school, and beyond that, have an offensive coach that pushes the envelope.

2. I like your instant coronation of Wells/Saine. While they both look great, it's been, once again against three unimpressive teams. On the other hand, USC just last week put up 300+ rushing yards at Nebraska. Not only that, but while we have two or three All-American running backs on the roster they have seven. That's right SEVEN running backs that could start on any team in the nation. Stafon Johnson was just one guy who stepped up, they still have a versatile Joe McNight. And there's no reason to expect them to not get another stud RB or QB this year.

3. Wow, fantastic, slight edge to OSU on the receivers. I'm sorry, do we have all country wide receivers that I don't know about? Sure, they're solid, and their numbers look pretty, but they don't have the speed, athleticism, or offensive system that Vidal Hazelton, Patrick Turner, and David Ausberry. They happened to have some good WR coaches too, seeing as how they just plug guys in to set Pac-10 receiving records - not easy to do.

For 5 years in a row, USC has been able to win the Pac-10, and it's no secret it's because they have defense. Experience, no experience, it just doesn't matter with Pete Carroll, he has so many athletes that it even puts a school as stacked as OSU to shame. We'd have to depend on our defense in the series, as that will be our saving grace.

Also, in that 5-6 year run while Carroll has been there, they've lost nary a game at home. So, one would imagine that experience is going to have a hard time overcoming talent and home field advantage. I'd be prepared, even with a great class coming in, for a bad loss heading out there, because that's all anyone's received in the Colosseum lately.

The Tressel-Carroll match up will definitely be the most intriguing, because even with the Vest's Success, he has come up short in the wins, and titles department. Seeing these two square off will surely be the highlight of that year.

Oh no, an OSU homer on BuckeyePlanet! Run for the hills! Thanks for compensating for an equally homeristic post of your own.

I love how you blast OSU fans for the instant coronation of Wells & Saine (never mind that Beanie's been at it over a year), yet claim to have the 7 best RBs in the nation. Besides being wildly foolish, you're guilty of the same 'instant coronation' sin. Oh noes!

Um, speed is not exactly the strong suit of Turner & Ausberry.

Something lost on the rest of the conference. Though UM is going much the same way recently.

Lately, as in back to back home games in 06?

OK, first, I neveer said we would win the game or predicted a score. I was just pointing out where I thought we may have an advantage. Now:

1. I have seen Boeckman, I havn't seen anybody else. He has a whole year to develop. Mark Sanchez threw a pick in only 3 attempts last year and that's not to he won't develop, because I am sure he will. Also, Mustain looked very lackluster in his stint last year at Arkansas too. Corp hasn't played a down yet.

2. How am I not allowed to crown Beanie/Saine as the potential top tandem int he league, yet you can with McKnight? I don't understand. If you can't see their potential, you're blind.

3. Needless to say, our WR class for'08 is pretty stellar and Patrick Turner may not even be in this conversation next year as he could go pro. Robiskie, Hartline and Small are all superior athletes to Ausberry. Hazelton is solid, and Ronald Johnson is a future stud... thus being the reason I gave USC the edge.

One of those "unimpressive" teams stopped the nation's longest winning streak the week before our game, and played USC to 6 points at USC last year. Washington's rush defense had allowed 141 yards total (2 ypc) and only 1 TD in their previous two games before Beanie and Zoom put up 218 yards (6.6 ypc) and 2 TDs between them.

Against the Nebraska rush defense that allowed 236 yards rushing to frickin' Wake Forest...

You have possibly the most appropriate moniker on the entire site.
