tOSU vs. USC 08 & 09 series

Isn't there a relatively good chance we could end up playing them again in the Rose Bowl at the end of both of those seasons? It would be interesting to see how much the teams change between the beginning and end of the seasons.

I may be wrong wouldn't that mean that most likely both would have to lose a game but win their conferences, or have someone in their conference go undefeated and go to the Championship game?

In 08, the winner would have to drop a game for the two to meet in the Rose Bowl. In the 09 season, the Rose Bowl is also the site of the BCS NC game.

Right but, most likely they would have to win their conferences too unless they lose to a team that goes to the BCS NC game.

Russell, Clifford, Washington, Amos & Coleman is a pretty talented secondary. I agree O'Neal will lose the safety job, but I think he'd have even more trouble at corner.

I really think O'Neal belongs on the other side of the ball. He strikes me as a player who likes to elude people, especially when you look at the opportunities that he's had the ball in his hands (the lateral from Laurinaitis and the INT return in the spring game). If you don't love to hit, you can't play defense, especially strong safety.

Russell is going to be a good one if he comes back from the injury 100%.

Washington handled his duties very well and is a step ahead of Amos and Coleman.

Last season, we were able to shield our safety play very well. However, when it was time to gameplan for Florida, our coaches were so concerned that Harvin and Florida's WRs would exploit our safeties for long gains that they completely gave up attacking Florida's offense. And now with Mitchell's graduation and Russell's return from injury, the jury is still out on this group. If we do not address it early, it's an area where teams will definitely attack.

I may be in the minority, but I think that the safety play will be just fine...

JamO was battling injury in the NC game and if Russell comes back 100% he is a first team all-big ten performer...

Also watch out for Gant, Schwartz, or Coleman to get strong looks at getting one of the spots as well, and maybe one of the incoming frosh as well...

Sounds like a vBet to me

Someone from the group of Schwartz, Grant, Coleman and Clifford will jump JamO, either in the spring or early in the fall. Don't count out Nick Patterson either, he was ahead of JamO in the depth charts before game one.

Again, the way the coaching staff prepared for the Florida game says to me that we had a problem at safety. As Grad pointed out before, it's one of those positions that you ever have it or don't have it. Grant looked promising and from what was said about Schwartz, he'll be in the thick of things too. If Clifford works hard with the S&C program this summer and comes in a tad faster, he would also be a prime candidate to start by mid-season.

I think JamO is going to suprise people next year...If you can rewatch the NC game just watch the way he is running, you can tell he is battling injury, that is why we never brought the safties up to press cover...

I am not saying he won't get passed up, but he did have some good plays in the regular season and with another off season and he will be a junior next year...I think the light will officially stay on for him...

I would not be surprised to see Jenkins gone his junior year. It will be interesting seeing how it all plays out. IF Clifford is as good as advertised he could be one of the starters at CB with Washington and Amos playing CB and Nickel. Maybe guy's like Torrence and Evege could also challenge for the nickel position.

Safety, Russell at one spot and then a toss up between Gant, Shwartz and Coleman for the other spot. Not sure that JAM or Patterson are going to be able to hold these guys back.

Lot's of talent, depth and speed though in the secondary.

Aaah, I am looking forward to this series. First off, Pete Carroll has shown me that given time, there's not a whole lot he can't get past. If you look at their losses over the last few years I think only one was a real defeat, that was Texas. The others his team wasn't prepared and got upset, but it was obvious versus Cal, Oregon State and UCLA that USC was the better team. Another note, odds are in 2008 we will be rolling into their house with them in a 4-5 year home winning streak.

This should be the game of the year, and I give props to both schools for having the guts to schedule it. I will be heading to the coliseum to see this game, sporting my white #10 jersey :) My only worry will be parking my car in that dump :(
