Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, B1G Championship Game, Sat 8 ET on FOX

I don't know anyone el
The only issue I have with coaches is the seeming refusal to give the ball to Hyde on 1st and 2nd down in the first quarter. He was getting 4-6 yards at will on his first few carries and if they rode that the momentum would have developed a little differently.

Other than that, the biggest problem the Buckeyes have is mental mistakes by players.
I was responding to a comment about the defensive secondary.

Offensively, I agree we got away from Hyde too soon, especially for quick passes to the outside that were useless, save for one Philly turned into a first down. That said, I don't think we're going to see Hyde rumble for chunks the way we're used to, but 4 yard runs will open up some play action passes. We just have to be a little more patient against a defense this good, but it's tough to do when you're down 17. Fortunately, we're within 7 now.

A TD drive to start the half could go a long way to turning this game in our favor.

It's easy to blame coaches, but the players have to play better. Both TD passes were the result of guys jumping routes, going for a play that wasn't there.

Hopefully, they've settled down now and will stop taking unnecessary risks.

That is exactly what our secondary coaching philosophy teaches, though. Read any article on Wither's defenses in the NFL and at UNC, and in the first year he was hired at OSU. And it's not just this game, it's been happening all season. When the talent is there but the execution is consistently not, game after game, imho that is on the coaches and not the players.

Found a source:

"Interceptions have been a big part of your defenses in the past. How much will you stress that? Before last year, Ohio State had been really good at taking the ball away.

EW: It's important when you're playing in the secondary, when that ball's in the air, boy, you get opportunities to make interceptions and you change the game. I think you have to emphasize it in practice, you have to emphasize route concepts and splits and receivers. Once you get to that point, then a secondary can be aggressive and go play the ball. Again, if you stop the run and you make people one dimensional, you'll get more opportunities to go attack the ball in the air. That's always been my philosophy."
