Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, B1G Championship Game, Sat 8 ET on FOX

I too was much more devastated about the '98 game because we could have actually won the title that year with the win...we were stacked on both sides of the ball. This year I am bummed but honestly almost prefer we don't get showed up in the title game again and honestly, MSU just might be the better team, which was not true in '98. I didn't think that before this game but I think the weaknesses we already knew about before the game became so abundantly apparent that it beat some sense into me on our odds of beating FSU.

This. I was in the stands as well, but the talent on the field was off the charts. Add on to the fact that the Arkansas QB put the ball on the ground to help Tee Martin go on to the BCS championship game instead of OSU, horseshit. That was the most talented team of my recollection over the last 30 years.

That was a really good team Ohio State lost to Sat night. So, disappointment, but no despair.

This. I was at the game on Saturday and was very impressed with the level of play by Sparty. Their secondary is the best in the country. The whole game, from my vantage point, they had their corners a yard off the ball. Normally, that is the perfect time to go deep. We took shots at them, but they played the ball so well. It killed our passing game, though I think the middle of the field was ours to be had. That was one of the better defenses that I've watched in some time, IMHO.

When we went up I thought that we had it, but Michigan St. wanted it more on Saturday. It pains me to say it, but they just out fought us late in that game. I don't know that they are the "better" team, but they are most certainly the more gritty, mentally disciplined team this season. Meyer needs to fix that, because if he wants to win it all in Columbus, he needs a cohesive team with real leadership. Ohio State has lacked real leadership this season on both sides of the ball. We don't have that couple guys who form an identity for the team on defense. Shazier is fantastic, but he's not a captain. Bosa could be that guy for us. Meyer needs a lunch pail guy who leads.... He knows that and he'll get it fixed.

Too bad we couldn't have played the game outside in the snow. Sparty's edge in team speed and their explosive passing game would have been somewhat neutralized. *starts sobbing uncontrollably*

Trust that Urbs can rebuild it. He has the technology. Honestly, he had maintained all year that we weren't there yet. Tighten up that defense in '14 and go for the throat. I would love to see this team firing on all cylinders. It's going to be a nightmare for the opposition.

Damn I'm tired of hearing that MSU has more team speed because they don't at best it's a draw. We should've won the game inside at Lucas Oil and we should've won the game if it was played in Japan.

MSU won because they were a fundamentally sound football team that had a ton of experience and most of all they made plays when it counted but they DID NOT win that game because they were more talented or faster.

They won the game because OSU abandoned the power run

I was kidding. I (like everyone else) thought it would be an advantage to play in the dome b/c we had more speed than Sparty. Our advantage in that department was at best negligible. And I certainly didn't expect our pass D to be so reprehensible that it would turn even Sparty's cute little offense into an explosive weapon.

VIDEO: URBAN MEYER KNEW THE 2013 TEAM WOULD LOSE THE B1G CHAMPIONSHIP

Urban Meyer spoke at the Football Hall of Fame Luncheon today in Stark County. Given the tradition of the event, and the Stark County blood that's pulsated through Ohio State football's history, it's no surprise Urban Meyer didn't pull any punches.

Here's Urban on why, deep down, he knew the 2013 team would lose to Michigan State:

2013: BRAXTON MILLER FINDS PHILLY BROWN FOR A 20-YARD TOUCHDOWN
I almost ruled any touchdown from the 2013 Big Ten title game as ineligible considering the Buckeyes lost 34-24 to Michigan State but this was a hell of a pitch and catch.

Trailing 17-0 midway through the second quarter and in desperate need of some momentum, Ohio State took possession at its own 16 yard line.

Braxton Miller finally asserted himself on a 48-yard zig-zag on 2nd-and-8 giving OSU some life at the Spartan 34. After an 11-yard toss to Philly Brown and a Carlos Hyde 3-yard run, Braxton received a shotgun snap on 2nd-and-7 from the Michigan State 20.

Looking straight down the seam, Braxton fired rocket over the defense and into the outstretched hands of Brown. Great throw, even better catch.

The play ignited a 24-0 scoring run from the Buckeyes before they allowed Sparty to score the game's final 17 points.
