Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, B1G Championship Game, Sat 8 ET on FOX

The CFB world is counting on MSU
The SEC is counting on MSU
sEcSPiN is counting on MSU

Yes, it is up to MSU to finally rid the CFB world of the scourge that is The Ohio State Buckeyes. It is their duty to remove all doubt and eradicate the undeserving threat to the BCS Championship and the SEC.

MSU must defeat one of their BIG brethren to remove any doubt that the BIG is the worst football conference and that tOSU is the most undeserving 24-0 undefeated team in CFB history. For MSU the challenge is not only the BIG Championship but also the restoration of order in the CFB world and to ensure that one of the more deserving 1 loss SEC teams plays for the final BCS Championship.

Here's to our Buckeyes in lowering the boom on all of them!!!

You know what the craziest part about all of this is? Dantonio knows it. He knows what the perception will be if we lose. He knows Alabama canceled the series with the B1G to schedule a 'tougher' SEC opponent. He knows they will be right back in it should we fall. Not trying to make anything of it, just saying... I don't expect him to be too upset if they lose. I expect him to tell Urban to go kick some ass and bring that crystal ball 'home'.

Mark Dantonio, I do not think you know what this person is like.

I seriously doubt he is thinking in those terms. He's trying to win a B1G Championship for M*ch*g*n State.

Bear in mind that, should the Buckeyes only win this game by a single point, it will be virtually the same thing as a 30-point loss. Failure to blow out MSU by at least a six-touchdown margin will simply affirm that OSU is a barely adequate second-rate team and that the BIG trails the MAC in their stable of nondescript players. Of course, should OSU accomplish a win by a massive margin, that will only serve as irrefutable evidence of the gross inferiority of all other Big Ten Conference teams, and confirmation that MSU was over-rated the entire season. Consider, too, the lack of ranked teams in our W column, because, of course, the fact that they were ranked when we defeated them is irrelevant. (Do not dare to consider that maybe we might have been responsible for breaking them a little.)

This is all, you must understand, in stark opposition to the simply fabulous, spectacular, brilliantly coached, and incomparably talented Alabama Auburn team (aw, screw it, just insert any team below the Mason-Dixon Line here). To suggest they are anything less would be positively Un-American (just ask the Auburn AD). Whatever you do, never contemplate the fact that, barring two of the most wildly improbable, ridiculous, unlikely, statistically rare back-to-back events in the history of college football, Auburn would instead now be 9-3. Only a dirty pinko Commie would consider denying the anointed Team of Destiny of 2013. (Ya' know, like that Team of Destiny of 2012...Notre something-or-other.)

Conclusion: OSU can't win. Period.
Except on the field.
Every. Single. Time.
For the last TWO YEARS.

Pity how little that counts for.

Noise. If we win, we are in. Seems like our wins count for a lot.

We blitzed a fair amount against TTUN actually. It just didn't work on multiple occasions. Fans keep calling for the blitz - and you got it a lot - but when it doesn't work, you make an already suspect back 7 reduced in number and even more susceptible to the pass.

Granted, but, you can't blitz and play 7-10 yards off the ball at the same time. I watched it happen several times on Saturday. Blitzing makes them make faster decisions so you don't want them to have a cushion to throw to. What good does it do if we let them hit the cross or stop routes and defeat our blitz? Make em fit a tight window or throw it away if the blitz doesnt come totally clean. Too scared. I would rather see us get beat over the top once or twice than continually give up the 10 yarders, especially how we've been tackling.

I saw a mixture of both and did see some tighter coverage at times and disguised coverage a few times.

My point remains that some folks continue to ask for the D to blitz as if they haven't been. But if you payed much attention, you'd see that we did blitz plenty but that alone wasn't the answer this weekend.

This does not pertain to blitzing but the one play that really bothered me this past weekend was when Scum had the ball on their own 5 yard line and both of our cornerbacks were playing about 7-8 yards off of their men. They threw the ball to the WR that Roly was "covering" and they got a first down which really let them off the hook. I believe they scored a TD on that drive.

All year. Unfortunately, all year.

I think that Dontre and Heuverman (sp) are going to play key roles in keeping the MSU Defense honest. Dontre's speed which will stretch the field horizontally and Heuverman stretching the field vertically going up the seams can really pay big dividends as the MSU D focuses most of their attention on Braxton and THE BEAST. All it is going to take is a couple big plays from one or both of these guys and MSU is going to have to be less aggressive. Once the D backs off Braxton and Hyde can go to work.

Being in a dome will be huge. We will have a fast field which will be to our advantage. No wind or rain which will help Braxton with the passing game. I like our chances.

GO BUCKS!
Beat Sparty!
