Game Thread tOSU vs. Sparty, B1G Championship Game, Sat 8 ET on FOX

I think that Dontre and Heuverman (sp) are going to play key roles in keeping the MSU Defense honest. Dontre's speed which will stretch the field horizontally and Heuverman stretching the field vertically going up the seams can really pay big dividends as the MSU D focuses most of their attention on Braxton and THE BEAST. All it is going to take is a couple big plays from one or both of these guys and MSU is going to have to be less aggressive. Once the D backs off Braxton and Hyde can go to work.

Being in a dome will be huge. We will have a fast field which will be to our advantage. No wind or rain which will help Braxton with the passing game. I like our chances.

GO BUCKS!
Beat Sparty!

This is assuming that Dontre even plays. Urban said they're still discussing punishment.

I am not sure MD can feel anything....happiness or sadness. He walks around in a constant state of slightly pissed off at SCum at all times. And when he has to play another team he pivots the eye of hate towards that team just long enough to defeat them and then turns it back to SCum.

He will play to win. He will push the envelope of the rules to win. He will not be happy if MSU loses. Now maybe a few weeks later if he is at Rose Bowl and tOSU is playing for the NC will he admit he is rooting for tOSU. But that day/week. NO way. He is just not wired like that.

BTW - you can count on him opening up the O, a trick play on special teams, and the D to be playing right on the edge of legal.

Dantonio is one of the most intense coaches in college football. The best thing about him is his absolute disdain for all that is SCum. And his complete unwillingness to act like they are special in any way. Which makes him enemy #1 for the skunk badgers. There was a pole on who was the most hated SCum and MSU players. And Dantonio won for the MSU player by a landslide.

Urban better amp up his intensity this week and find his inner child. You know the one that is pissed off and hates everyone. Because you can count on Dantonio having MSU in a full froth come game time. I would bet good money that MSU led the B10 in personal fouls for vicious hits. And they put key players out ever week.

I still think Miller is the difference maker but I am curious to how Urban gets the team motivated. One would think playing for a spot in the NC game would be plenty enough to be fired up but one never knows.

not according to Jesse Palmer:nerd: or David Pollack:pimp:

Fortunately neither have a vote in the Harris poll

, so anything that they say is basically worthless hot air.

Two interesting names are on the list though: Doug Plank and Jeff Logan

Is there anyway to not listen to ESPN?

Seriously, you would think they are the final word on all that is college football. And with their TV deal with the SEC it is nauseating to listen to them constantly act like the SEC is far superior to the rest of the football world.

Until Saban showed up the SEC was just like everyone else. The reality is that Saban fixed LSU and is now at Alabama. Put Saban at Texas (rumors are out there) and watch what happens to the SEC.

Urban will make $4.25 if he beats Sparty:
- automatic contract renewal ($4 million)
- B1G championship ($100K)
- title game appearance ($150K) (actually $250K for title game, less the $100K he would get for a BCS bowl anyway if he looses)

I am pleased with this. It is good incentive. It aligns tOSU's interest with Meyer's interest.

1974

1998

Never again.
You forgot 1972.

November 11, 1972: #5 Ohio State (7-0-0) lost to unranked Michigan State (3-4-1) by a score of 19-12. Ohio State would rebound from the loss to win the Big Ten championship and finish the regular season at #3 in the polls. The Buckeyes played #1 USC in the Rose Bowl in the de facto national title game and lost, 42-17.

November 9, 1974: #1 Ohio State (8-0-0) lost to unranked Michigan State (4-3-1) by a score of 16-13. The game featured an 88-yard touchdown run by Michigan State tailback Levi Jackson, the second-longest play from scrimmage ever against Ohio State, and a controversial ending that saw the Buckeyes come up a foot short from the game-winning touchdown as time expired. The Buckeyes would again rebound from that loss and win the Big Ten championship and secure a berth in the Rose Bowl. In another national championship showdown with USC, the Buckeyes lost a heartbreaker, 18-17 on a last second touchdown and two-point conversion.

November 7, 1998: Most of you remember this one: #1 Ohio State (8-0) lost to unranked Michigan State (4-4) by the score of 28-24. Down 24-9 in the middle of the third quarter, Michigan State punts from its own end zone. The punter shanks one, but the ball hits Buckeye cornerback Nate Clements in the foot. The Spartans recover the muff, and from that point on the Buckeyes go into complete meltdown mode. The Spartans score the final 19 points of the game, and seal the victory with an interception in the end zone with just over a minute left on the clock. The Spartans coach that day? None other than Nick Saban. Because of that loss, Ohio State finished third in the BCS standings, and was unable to play for the national championship.

Just idle musings. MSU D and tOSU O will be a slugfest. Think it'll come down to missed tackles and Braxton run, plus some tOSU TE catches, calling Jeff Huereman! Nobody left to cover the TE once two of the best CB match up with tOSU receivers, Max Bullough has El Guapo squarely in his sights all day, and the other two LB's are watching Braxton, plus following a speed sweep after speed sweep.

Big part of the game will be tOSU D versus the MSU O. Wow. Could make a case either way, but through my scarlet-and-gray glasses, I see not one, but two pick 6's/blocked punt/punt runback for TD's.

tOSU 24- MSU 10.

That's how i remember it.

Roy Firestone has taken to FB to screech about how the 2 guys aren't suspended for this week's title game, that Urban has all his priorities wrong, blah blah blah. This from a guy who sang the praises of Lane Kiffin
