I’m hopeful the team gets some confidence from it but Day is just an insecure millennial looking for participation trophies. I have less respect for him than I did before the hissy fit (which isn’t saying much). He was well on his way to losing this game the same way he always loses to good teams when Freeman out-Dayd him.

The thing I fault Day on was allowing the D to disintegrate under his watch, and the whole Stud fiasco which has brought about the current O-line issues.

Both of those parts have taken a long time to dig out of. The D is almost there, and the O line is still a work in progress.

Incidentally everything that forms the complaints about Day stem from those two things. That falls on him.

I think some of his play calling doesn't always place the players in the best in position. Sometimes.

Other than that, I think you are being unfair.

I think that guy before Day shares plenty of blame for the disintegration of the D.

I think both teams left things off the field. For some reason our coach who has a brilliant offensive mind, often times just does braindead stuff.....like a jet sweep on 4th and 1. No, the players didn't have drops or things like that.....but the coaches sure did.

As said above, I think the D falling apart and the OL recruiting under Stud was a ticking time-bomb that Day inherited. Time will tell if Day can remedy those two major issues, but I thought both the D and OL play was awfully encouraging on the road in that environment...ND has some talent on offense and their defensive front, and I thought we handled our business exceptionally well on both ends. Question is can we replicate that later in the season (looking at PSU, ttun and the B1G Championship Game if we get there), which has been the real issue.

My only real complaint on Day right now (other than losing the last two to ttun, which I am letting go of mentally for now until the end of November) and partially on Hartline now that he is supposedly calling our offense is the jet sweeps/tosses on 3rd and short. And I think that falls on Day because we saw the exact same plays the last couple of years. Cut that shit out and we are going to be a much better offense.

Very satisfied with Day overall and there is no better option out there other than possibly promoting Hartline within, but I don't think we are there at all until we see what happens after the ttun game.

It would be interesting to see how successful (or not) the jet sweeps have even been in the past 5+ years. Or, alternatively, whether there's any knock-on effects if they open up the middle or something. As near as I can tell, they are mostly failures. I've never seen them do anything better than 5-8 yards and often they are no gains or losses. I think those calls need to die - but I'm sure there's some analysis on them from some Buckeye diehard.

Agreed. He has stubborn tendencies that I think become predictable to other programs.

Overall, I am happy with him.

I think if I were coaching against Day, I would have my defense ready for the wide receiver screen or the jet sweep on the first down of every first possession of the game/half, or the first down of an important possession.

Have absolutely no data to support that, but it seems to me that he likes to open important drives with one of those two plays.

I mean I didn’t lose respect for him but I totally agree that scoring from the 1 with 1 second left to win by 3 against a 10 man defense isn’t exactly tough.

Had they missed that holy shit.

I don't see very many people making note that we failed to score against a 10 man defense the play before that.

There is just no coming back from the jet sweep call on 4th and the ballgame (at the time). You can say whatever you want afterward about being tough but that was action, not words and it showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that he knows he can't run straight ahead and get a yard when he needs to.
