tOSU Transfer Portal Recruiting Discussion

These stats are not the problem with McCord. He’s an overall serviceable QB with a good arm, no mobility, and no leadership qualities. Will Howard will not throw better than McCord (probably similar), but he’s mobile ( will help with red zone and 3rd down offense) and he’s a good leader. He’ll be an upgrade over what we’ve seen of Brown.

What we really need to see is the OL plan and a high end OC hire. Will Howard will only help if we improve OL play and offensive schemes.

Not sure if we can hire an OC without ruffling Hartlines feathers. Why would he stay if he is getting demoted?

I don't think anyone made a claim about him lacking leadership - source?

Stats analysis on McCord is always going to slant in favor of McCord because his issue at OSU was never the balls that the threw. It was the balls that he didn't throw.

There were plenty of plays where McCord threw a fine ball to someone underneath but completely missed a guy wide open downfield. Or times where he ended up eating a sack or throwing the ball away when you can clearly see someone open downfield.

He was late on a good amount of throws but most of them were still at least catchable. But his field vision is garbage.

Let him keep his "Co" title. It was only given to him so they could give him a raise. It wouldn't be a demotion.

Even make it a mentorship. Would be awesome if Day could find another Kevin Wilson. Someone older and experienced that can take the playbook off Ryan’s hands. Also could provide mentorship to Hartline for a few years and then be on his way back to an HC gig/NFL with Hartline sole-OC.

McCord made those stats with the best WR room in college football. And that's him maxing out with 3 years under Day. It also doesn't sit well with me that McCord quit on the team rather than compete

Between Ohio State's WR room and Day's tutelage, Will should make a jump, and it could be a significant jump. Also, Will's gotta be tough to run the ball like he does, which I dig. And he's played well in big games the last 2 years, win or lose. This year against Missouri, he had 270 yds on 25 of 39 passing for 3 TDs & an INT, losing on a prayer last second field goal

I'd take a chance on Will over McCord. He's worth the risk, if for no other reason than Devin's penchant for getting hurt when he's out there

sigh.... Will Howard is a downgrade over McCord.... I dont like the way this ends ... :(

Eh Howard is better if you actually watch them. Also put into consideration the talent McCord was working with vs the talent Howard was working with.

Even if Howard is just a average passer (what McCord was) his running ability, toughness and leadership make him a big upgrade alone.

I'd much rather be going into 2024 with Howard than McCord no matter what some graphs say.

I don’t think Hartline has much to say this year either. Who cares if his feathers are ruffled, his offense couldn’t even score a TD in the Cotton bowl. His loaded WR room was neutered and that’s all he’s brought to the offense. Why should Day care about his feelings about bringing in another OC when he’s shown to be nothing more than a WR coach? Im Tired of acting like Hartline is untouchable because he’s been able to recruit at a high level, but his room recently has Relied on mainly 1 man. And as the OC he hasn’t done much to show he’s affected the offense as a whole
