tOSU Transfer Portal Recruiting Discussion

I can understand that, but do you think the answer to replacing him is already in the QB room or in the portal? I think the answer is already in our QB room. McCord has enough talent imo to get us where we need to go, he just needs to grow a sack and get out of his own head. That can happen but he really needs to focus on it. Not sure if Day just needs to be the QB guru we all think he is, or if Kyle just needs a mental detox, or a bit of both.

I know he hasn't played at the college level in meaningful situations, but Kienholz has that confidence and command that Kyle lacked this year...so if Kyle can't step it up in that category, one of Brown or Kienholz will...bringing in another QB in the portal is probably not good for either side and we just need to develop 1 of 4 great QB prospects we have recruited into Columbus. One lone exception is if Finn wants to come here to enter the mix.

Day giving up play calling totally so he can focus on everything else a head coach needs to focus on more would be a great start. But I get the feeling that's never truly going to happen.

I agree, I would like to see him split reps with Kyle in whatever bowl we end up in to begin the spring position battle. The outcome of the game doesn't matter, might as well try to spark the competition at QB and see what Kienholz can do.

McCord can get the ball to our playmakers enough to get us to the title, I still think that even after Saturday. I think he will improve after 1 year under his belt. But you are absolutely right that without improvement on the OL, that will not matter. We need 2 top OL from the portal to at least compete and push who we have. Simmons ended up working well after he adjusted and hopefully we find some more like him.

Aside from OL, the only other spots we need help on in the portal are DE/DT imo (DT greatly depending on who leaves for the draft). I really like the Harvard kid at DT, and we need to target a DE regardless of what happens in the '24 class. If a good LB pops up in the portal, that is another position I would be in favor of if it is the right guy.
Kyle definitely has room for improvement. He was also injured most of the year, had a pretty average OL most of the year and had a number of dropped balls as well. Case in point is Egbuka's dropped ball in The Game. The Marvelous one had numerous drops, as did Fleming, etc. If all those dropped balls were caught we might be singing another tune when it comes to Kyle.

Yeah he can’t do that though because the staff is younger than I am. If he’s going to go totally hands off he should’ve brought in someone with experience that’s got tons of experience

People tried to tell me that the OL this year wasn't "that bad"

Announcer voice/ "it was".

Of any position group it was most responsible for the 3rd straight loss in The Game. McCord was making the game winning throw to a wide open MHjr and can't step into it because one of the interior line (who I was told all year was good and is the strength of the OL) got abused for the last time on a day he scored a 4 something on his PFF grade.

Go raid the portal and take away the lack of talent excuse to see what we have in the new OL coach. Make people compete for jobs.
C’mon man you know it was all McCords fault and far be it that he should ever suit up again for the Buckeyes……so I’ve read on here anyway….

This is where losing Kevin Wilson hurts. And also surprised that Fitch hasn't been more involved with the offense. I know he can't be involved with game days, but with schemes during the week. And working with Hartline on play calling.
