tOSU Transfer Portal Recruiting Discussion

That’s what I was alluding to. Ward signing will more than likely cause loses of McCord and Brown. So take that fwiw. Some will be happy, some will be indifferent. I’m in the later camp, as I feel OSU can win with McCord if they solidify the OL. But Ward looks dangerous athletic QB that OSU hasn’t had since Fields.

But excitement needs to be tempered because Ward is not in the Portal
Explain this to me like I am an 8-year old. How can teams be offering him 7-figure deals to transfer when he is not in the Portal? Is that not some form of tampering? Or, is this still such a wild west environment you can offer any player at any school? Regardless, I am not getting too excited until he is officially in the Portal.

Meh, Cougs will always be somewhat competitive due to their gimmick offense. Throw the ball all game. CFB has never had parity, teams always dominate for years, and then rotate and then another few teams dominate for years. And they pretty much rotate. Schools like WSU, Indiana, Oregon St, Rutgers, etc will never be relevant. Sorry, but that’s the facts. And that’s the reality that many long standing CFB fans don’t want to admit. But yet they want to watch CFB is act is if they’re one of those tier of programs that they have a chance in the off season. But let’s be honest, UK, Wake Forest, Arizona, etc may make an occasional CFP in the 12 team format, but they’ll never sniff a championship.
My thing is that the staff that did the work to recruit him and develop his skills shouldn't have him stolen just because WSU can't give a player $1M. There are legit reasons to transfer, like Justin Fields' case, but to me money shouldn't be one of them. It's not organic as CFB should be. Money is the main factor with respect to rosters in pro sports. Shouldn't be in college.

but he isn't the staff's property no matter how hard they worked with him.

The kid has the right to go get his.

I just don't like the idea of a few schools collecting some of the best players because of their market or whatever the particular reason is that they have more NIL resources. A few rich grads who have nothing better to do with their money than make some 18-year-old (20 in Cam's case?) a millionaire. It's ridiculous.

Recruiting a kid, developing his skills, reaping benefits. That's organic. I don't care if that's not anyone else's priority.

I'm not disparaging OSU if they get him, I just hate the system.

I get the unfairness to the schools by the way you are looking at it but what about the focus on the kid.

How is it fair to the player to not be able to follow the money wherever it is?

My take is who cares if it upsets. There’s 3 positions in the portal that you take a chance on a great player. OT, DE and of course QB.

Zach Smith went over Ward compared to McCord today and it’s clear that Ward is the better thrower. It wasn’t even close on intermediate throws. Then there’s the extra dimension of Cam running the ball too. All moot because the kid isn’t in the portal but if he does enter the portal we need to push the chips in on a player like this.

No offense to Kyle but he’s not far off from the player we saw vs Akron in 2021. Besides if we get a crazy mobile QB then imagine what it does for the read option etc.

But is Ward that good? I mean Fields was THAT good, but is Ward? And are his rushing stats that good?
I'm just wondering if The Game is still fresh on our minds and we want Ward to be better than McCord. I'm fine with either scenario but I'm just thinking is this the flavor of month scenario. Or is he legit
