2026 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I need to see three coaches at a time visiting Riley and Guthrie weekly before I can say they are being diligent enough. I know these guys are crazy busy this spring but those two need to be at the top of our list!

I was just about to say the same thing, we have to knock the doors down and make both a priority. Bowen has time to make up ground but you gotta use that time to do it with Frye gone. After reading up on Bowen and knowing the rest of the staff, the effort will be there though.

I’m sure Day and Co. are telling this to these recruits. But it’s highly likely that entering as a 3-5 year player that the recruit is going to be at a school, that if the OL coach (any position coach) is elite, that they will leave during your career. I think if it were me, I’d rather got to a school with a new position coach than with one that is going to leave after my first or second year. The certainty is that, Ohio State is Ohio State. There are about 5 schools with the same sort of history, and Clemson isn’t one of them.

Definitely a fair point, but I'm not sure a lot of recruits would rationalize the reality of it even though history pretty much tells us a really good position coach gets another job and the bad ones get canned. Only potential exception is an ex-OSU guy like Hartline or JL, and even those won't last forever.

With Bowen, the timing wasn't horrible and he should have time to build the relationships with OL he wasn't already recruiting at VT. But he does need to make that a priority along with Riley, which I am sure is happening. We have to make the great Ohio 2026 OL class count.

Yeah….Clemson’s 7 year run ended with a sound defeat to Ohio State In January 2021. They are going to slide behind Miami and possibly Georgia Tech at some point.
Idk, you could be right. But the weirdest thing is, that Clemson can be as successful as Dabo wants them to be if he stops being so stubborn and embraces the new era. If Dabo got his head out of his you know what and utilized the PortAl and NIL as much as anyone else, than Clemson would go back to dominating the ACC. The school that is ready to take over the ACC is the team who won the ACC regular season, SMU. I don’t think the nerds in ATL will ever get enough talent to consistently to stay in the conversation.

Sorry, didn’t mean to derail the thread

One never knows about the size of a team's NIL bag. (Thump's Bagmen). Could be a bit limited, which may cause Dabo to play the game the way he has been going. Hard to say. Certainly not like Texas's oilmen, or Miami's land developers etc. Or maybe Dabo just spends his time listening to Sinatra's "I'll do it my way..."

Its not that at all, and I can assure you that Clemson alum would love nothing more than to spend NIL money on recruits. Its that Dabo is stubborn and doesn't want to utilize NIL or the Portal. Hence why their recruiting has fallen off so much. Dabo leans toward the latter of your post.

And tbh, its pretty easy to come close to knowing the size of some of the NIL collectives, and what programs are willing to spend. Just look at the recruiting rankings and the CFP.

Mark Porter on the Bucknuts podcast pointed to Mentor OL Landry Brede and Mentor Lake Catholic OL Nathan Zappitelli as two potential camp offers

Brede already has offers from Florida, Maryland, Syracuse, BC, and BC State
I've been hearing a lot of positives about Brede. Can definitely see an offer, pretty much every analyst has fallen in love with his play
