2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

“Ohio State is just installing a technical system that doesn’t allow you to actually showcase your talents. Its very scheme driven and doesn’t allow great players to actually show their skills. You don't want that. Do you really want to risk your future on something unproven?”

Not going to post them all, as you all can find them online. But a number of the 2023 class has been on Twitter telling OSU fans to calm down and step back from the ledge

It's pretty sad that the kids are telling the adults to get a grip. We'll get the guys who want to be Buckeyes, the ones who don't will leave. Simple as that. New world in NIL, and I can imagine that Day is waiting to see how this plays out before instructing the collectives to just shell out money to teenagers before they hit campus. And as to not mess up team chemistry. I'm curious to see how an upperclassmen at aTm or Miami for example reacts when a 5star HSer who has never played college ball gets offered 7 figures and he doesn't get close to that as a starter who's decent but not all conference. I can expect friction in that locker room...

I just have a hard time believing that differences in defensive scheme are causing us to lose some kids. Or that there is some unfamiliarity with Knowles scheme and therefore some inherent skepticism. Have a hard time believing that these 17 year old kids are just crushing tape of the Jim Knowles scheme and whatever other team's scheme they're considering. Think it more likely comes down to one of the oldest rules in the book: follow the money.

We have had some mediocre to bad defenses over the last few years. Until that starts to change, it is going to be tough sledding to recruit that side of the ball IMO.

Buckeyes drafted in the last 10 NFL Drafts. The defenses may have been mediocre to bad, but players are still getting drafted, especially in the early rounds.

Yeah, that list is irrelevant when you're using it for players who are set to be seniors in HS. They were in grade school 10yrs ago. It'd be more accurate of their view of OSU defensively of you take the last 5 drafts, at least they would've been in Middle school by then. And of those last 5 drafts we had 8 guys drafted in the 1st round, and only 4 of them are producing in the NFL. So that's not a good track record.

So if a teenager who plays defense looks at OSU, working against OSU is putting few guys high in the draft, the defense has been subpar and erratic, a new coaching staff, and then the cherry on top is there's no up front NIL money. It's a recipe for our current stretch

So Ohio State was paying better 5 years ago when we were recruiting defensive players more consistently, but now other schools are out paying us? That makes no sense.

I think the fact that our defense has been a flaming turd for three of the last four years, and subsequent staff turnover, has the effect of non-local recruits being unwilling to go to school far away for an uncertain outcome. That seems more likely to be than schools out paying us.
