2023 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

That part is an eye roller because he'd be having to remember back to his teenage years.

People, including OSU, haven't backed off until the LOI was signed for quite some time now.

I remember a time when once somebody committed, everybody just stopped recruiting them.

1998–2001 New Hampshire
Position(s) Quarterback, linebacker
Coaching career (HC unless noted)
2002
New Hampshire (TE)
2003–2004 Boston College (GA)
2005 Florida (GA)
2006 Temple (WR)
2007–2011 Boston College (WR)
2012 Temple (OC/WR)
2013–2014 Boston College (OC/QB)
2015 Philadelphia Eagles (QB)
2016 San Francisco 49ers (QB)
2017 Ohio State (co-OC/QB)
2018 Ohio State (acting HC/OC/QB)
2019–present Ohio State

If he is speaking from personal experience; maybe nobody recruited him (i.e. Ryan Day) after he committed to New Hampshire back in 1998.

I agree and said so in his thread, but I had a thought that maybe there is some context that would at least make that quote make sense.

Back during the Urban days someone said, maybe it was even Urban himself, if a prospect committed and wanted them to stop calling, they'd stop calling. If the prospect committed and wanted to keep communicating, they'd keep calling.

I'm wondering if with NIL and money to throw around now if they just keep calling no matter what and that's the change. Maybe it was already like that, but it's the only way that quote makes any sense.

I'm picturing the last 40 seconds or so of this clip:

I remember Urban saying a verbal commitment just meant your were in his top 3 or something like that.

Hairball has got to be loving what COVID helped create for *ichigan. Avoided getting a beat down in Columbus in 2020; where he was on the verge of losing his job. Not an overly talented team in 2021 but good enough, especially on the DL, that the more experienced players that hadn't beaten OSU came back for that sole purpose. A Perfect Storm. Had some success after beating a fairly young, inexperienced and incompetent OSU defense last year and beat us with different players but the same strategy this year and is now using the portal perfectly for their needs after experiencing a couple of years of success....... so naturally kids are buying the BS. Once he goes back to 9-3 or 8-4 in 2024 and he realizes it's not sustainable, he'll bolt for the NFL..... without a NC.

I agree with all you say until "A Perfect Storm. " That ball lands right in Day's hands. The needs of the defense were ignored until it smacked him right in the ass. The team didn't play that well on either side of the ball. That's also on him. The team didn't come out with the normal Michigan Game fire in the belly. Him again.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hardly anti-Ryan Day. He's a capable coach. He's a young coach. But when Ohio State hands you the clipboard and the whistle the expectations are as high as any in college football. When a team fails to reach those expectations, the responsibility is all on the coach.

CEO’s of public companies can’t just spend company funds on whatever they want.

If he’s throwing around any kind of real money it has to be his own.

Generally agree, but these lines have been very blurred when it comes to Oregon. Their uniform "agreements", stadium, facilities ... digging starts to reveal a tangled relationship.

One example - Nike owns the rights to OUs logo. That's not sale rights... that's the right to decide Oregon' logo.

Good point on Oregon. It's a public company so that should all be there to be reviewed if anyone has the appetite. Ultimately it comes down to what your board will allow (or it should unless there is straight up deception).

Based on average rating per recruit, however, Ohio State has the third-ranked class, behind top-ranked Alabama (both in total points and average rating per recruit) and just barely behind Georgia.

2023 RECRUITING CLASS RANKINGS (PER 247SPORTS)
TEAM 247SPORTS' POINTS (COMMITS) AVERAGE PER RECRUIT
1. Alabama 328.97 (28) 94.90
2. Georgia 311.80 (27) 93.75
3. Texas 297.31 (22) 92.82
4. Miami 294.85 (26) 92.24
5. Oklahoma 289.69 (25) 91.74
6. Ohio State 287.66 (20) 93.57

Given that Ohio State had five decommitments and missed out on several other key targets including three five-star defensive ends, there is reason not to be completely satisfied with the Buckeyes’ 2023 class. But Ohio State still signed one of the best classes in the country on Wednesday.

247 has Cormani McClain, David Hicks, Peyton Bowen, Nyckoles Harbor, Duce Robinson, Desmond Ricks, Jordan Hall, Rodrick Pleasant, and DeAndre Moore, Jr unsigned in the top 100 of the composite.

Day did say it's a long time until February. Who else might be coming on board? Wilcox? Any other possibilities anyone knows of?

Possible transfer: TE C.J. Dippre

Dippre posted on Twitter that his top two are Ohio State and Alabama and he plans to announce his college choice on Dec. 27.

I don't think Harbaugh is capable of any grand strategy. I think he's found a fortunate series of events to cover up his lack of recruiting.
Yeah, it's called having a defense. It's time to stop thinking of Hairball as a stooge and start figuring out how to beat his teams. The son of a bitch has got Day's number right now and the Bucks need to do something about it. Out recruiting is no substitute for out coaching.

It's more about Day than Harbaugh imo.

UGA didn't seem all that overwhelmed by his manball brilliance last year.

Dippre is picking Bama according to there 24/7 insiders.

Still think Luke Lachey is our best shot at a tranny TE. And he isn’t in the portal.

We aren’t beating Bama for a player they want that isn’t a WR.
Dude once again phrashing you really need a better shortened word for that.

And considering most never heard of him till today I'd say no one is surprised
