RANKING THE TOP 15 STANDOUT PERFORMERS DURING OHIO STATE’S 2022 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CAMPS

Thousands of talented high school football players made their way through the Woody Hayes Athletic Center during the month of June to participate in at least one of Ohio State’s seven high school football camps this summer.

As top prospects from the recruiting classes of 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026 made their way to Columbus to put their skills on display and learn from Ohio State’s coaches, Eleven Warriors was in attendance for all seven camps to watch those prospects compete.

Now that camp season has come to an end, it’s time to wrap it all up by highlighting and ranking the most impressive camp performances we saw this month.

Before we continue, there are a few caveats to note. For one, I couldn’t possibly watch every rep from every prospect at every camp – each camp features a multitude of groups of prospects working out simultaneously – which means some prospects might be excluded for no reason other than I wasn’t able to watch them as much as other prospects.

Secondly, these rankings are solely based on how impressive each player’s camp performance was. They are not intended to be an all-inclusive ranking of the best prospects who camped at Ohio State this month, but a ranking of which players captured my attention – and my colleagues’ attention – the most during their camp appearances.

Thirdly, a prospect had to go through a full camp workout that included competitive reps against other prospects in order to be eligible for this list. For that reason, you won’t find players like offensive line commits Luke Montgomery, Joshua Padilla and Austin Siereveld, wide receiver commit Carnell Tate and highly touted running backs Stacy Gage and Donovan Johnson – all of whom made camp appearances and went through private workouts with Ohio State coaches but did not go through full camp sessions alongside the rest of the prospects at their positions.

With all that in mind, the following 15 prospects are the ones who made the biggest impressions on me with their on-field camp performances this month.

If Dylan Raiola ranks #6, just how good are the 5 guys ranked above him (and #5 is another QB)?

USC AND UCLA JOINING THE BIG TEN WOULD GROW OHIO STATE'S RECRUITING FOOTPRINT

USC and UCLA: Big Ten members.

That still just doesn’t sound quite right. Nevertheless, after one of the most news-filled days in college football in quite some time, it appears it’s only a matter of time before both California schools are announced as future members of the Big Ten.

From a recruiting standpoint, there’s an immediate takeaway that comes to mind: Ohio State is about to get a lot more exposure in West Coast markets, and that can only help its West Coast recruiting.

Several years from now, Ohio State could be playing both USC and UCLA in primetime games, an occasion usually only reserved for the Rose Bowl. Recruits local to California are plausibly going to see the Buckeyes play teams local to them year in and year out, which can only help their brand expand into Western markets.

As long as OSU wins on the field, and there's a transfer portal, I have 0 worries in bringing in talent. Ryan Day is a top 5 HC in CFB, and I'd put him easily over the HCs who are relying solely on NIL to bring in talent but haven't had very much on field success.

Listen to the 'talking heads' and think that this is the highest tOSU will be ranked . Saying that, see a couple of 5* that MIGHT commit, but a long way from certainty. Bama will do it's usual surge, collecting scalps and 5*'s galore, and finish in top 1-2 per usual. Was pleasantly surprised that the new DB &S coaches were able to recruit as successfully as they did. LB - Knowles, will get his compliment needed (2?), but that cupboard is far from bare. OL is biggest concern, as we're two years without a road grader. Sure, some of last year and this year recruits CAN do it, but that's potential. Not seen any vignettes yet about Frye, how he's training the OL, back-ups, etc. Know it's a dead period for coaching, but am looking forward to him working in some of the new guys after some of these early games get played (after ND certainly). tOSU will lose three, maybe four starters from what should be an outstanding line. IF they all live up to their potential, but I see no reason why they wouldn't. Do like that Day doesn't use the xfer portal as a candy store, but cherry picks a starter or two (never been more than two a year, no?) to fill a specific need. Looking forward to the product tOSU puts on the field in the fall. Go Bucks!

I'll preface my post by saying that I agree with most of what you said, this is a great class and really am happy with the DB class specifically given we have a new and somewhat unproven commodity coaching that position. However, definitely disagree we haven't picked up a "road grader" OL despite underachieving a tad recruiting the OL position. In this class, Siereveld and Padilla are both dudes that can move people, I am really high on Padilla and the leverage he gets on defenders (I'm a little partial to wrestlers though, I'll admit that). Padilla's posted weight may not make you think of a road grader, but he most certainly is with the way he plays. Then in the '22 class, Hinzman was a somewhat unheralded late pickup at OL but was a godsend to finish the class that had a ton of nasty to his game. I get the concern at OT to some extent, but the interior OL is going to be stocked for years to come imo. And even at OT, I think we could wind up pretty happy with Tshabola and Montgomery, both are athletic as heck and seem to have the arm length and other attributes of a tackle. We have to be really happy that Ohio had such great OL in '23 or we would have probably been in trouble. OL recruiting can be a crapshoot but that's my current take.
