tOSU Recruiting Discussion

With all the skilled position weapons we have, would be a shame to see them diminished by bad OL play.

Couldn't agree more and why I was so vocal about Stud for so long. He put a couple year window of NC contending teams (21-23) at risk because he wasn't good enough at his job.

Defensive ineptitude kept him out of the spotlight far too long. I was very happy to see Day do something about him.

That last sentence is why I'm still high on Day. He's not complacent or content and he's taking big steps towards rectifying weaknesses in the program.

I just wish after Bama he would of pulled the trigger he pulled this year. I put it on CoVid because this year he pulled the trigger on Stud. Anyone with a brain knew big changes on D were needed. The Stud firing was more of a stealth move.

A big part of my concern with Day right there.

How on earth does he not know Coombs was in over his head between Bama and Oregon? You have all spring, all summer, all fall camp. They review practices, they scrimmage each other. You have enough at bats, looks at him in scrimmages to know he only throws a fastball.

I look at the "decisive action" Day took after the Oregon loss as more of a bad thing than some kind of merit badge for Day. He goy caught with something he should have seen coming.

That said, I like everything he's doing so far this year and it was early in his time on a new job so it's understandable to a degree. Hope he keeps it up with the defensive changes and that some of the locker room stuff was residual from it finally being Day's team and no longer Urban's.

I think it’s program now ..that Combs hire seemed more like Urban/ Gene Smith influenced. My guess and hope especially with the Stud canning that Day is all in and NFL talk was pure speculation.

Go back and note how many times Ohio State failed to get a first down on third and short running the ball and it becomes a lot less stealthy.

The run game was noticeably bad all year against teams with a decent DL—Nebraska, Penn State, UM, (to a lesser extent)Utah.
4 tackles and a Freshman Running back that needs some weight room work and a little more stamina. Hurt the running game. The a QB run scheme with no QB run. Short yardage requires TE blocking this team did not have that.

That Freshman running back is a complete stud and doesn't need anything more than reps. Remember he didnt even play his entire senior year and still comes in and dominates. He just needs reps to figure the college speed and nuances and hopefully his vision will develop with that. He's shown he can move the pile but he has a little of the JK ankle tackle going as a freshman. Reps reps reps

That’s what got me ridiculed suggesting he needed reps not rest.

During the season, especially early on, they did have to limit his workload so he didnt burn out and hit the wall before the crucial games. He was getting the most reps after about game 5 so they did it right. The reps coming this spring will be huge and into the beginning of next season his stamina should be up to snuff and he'll be a monster

How committed is Ryan Day to recruiting? From Tanner McCalister in an interview in The Athletic

"After that conversation, I got a call from Ryan Day. Ryan Day called me like five or six days straight, just seeing where my head was at."

Some coaches just close, other coaches let their assistants do all of the recruiting, Ryan Day recruits every day like he loves 'cruting!
