tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I think the need for a portal OT will be more severe after next year.

We will lose Dawand (I see him playing the 22 season here) and potentially Johnson.

At that point we would have limited options on the roster in terms of highly ranked OT prospects in the pipeline.

We won't have limited options for highly ranked players in the pipeline. We will have no options. There are no highly ranked Tackles after Johnson. We only have the group of fall back guys that were ranked outside the top 300.

One of them may emerge, a true freshman from the '23 class could step in and play at a championship level from day 1 or we hit gold in the transfer portal with someone(s) who aren't in there yet. Those are the options for Offensive Tackle in '23 if Johnson leaves.

uhm… there are very few that can do that especially on the blind side… just from a strength perspective…

It’s tremendously difficult to find an offensive tackle that can start right away as a true freshman. Even the most elite of five stars.

Which speaks to how dire of a situation Stud has created here. Knowing that a day 1 true freshman starter is next to impossible, the other two options are that 2 of the 3 OT's currently on the roster develops well enough to play at the level we need (and not just give us the ability to put a body on the field at the position) and the portal.

As someone else mentioned, the plan in '23 might most realistically be we have two Guards playing tackle. Portal is the next most likely, fallbacks blossom x 2, then recruiting two Orlando Paces in the same year is my batting order of likeliness.

Not great Bob.

Just a humorous thought......appears to be a plethora of IOLs, so why not have a OL starting five of IOLs? Stud did the reverse with OTs. Had a good pass pro team, but couldn't run a lick. Now, we can run the ball down their throats, and when they bunch up, release the speedy WRs. Given the 'cupboard is bare' thought on elite OTs, might be worth a try. PS, Ryan, I can attach my resume for the OLine coach if desires. Go Bucks! Maybe two or three of the Bama 5*s see the writing on the wall and give Ryan a jingle.....Hear that JT Latham?

I don't follow recruiting much. I'm more of a "let me know when they sign the LOI" guy, so I don't know if we're anticipating any possible declarations in the AA Bowl today.

Anyone in particular to watch?

Wait, are you serious or kidding?
If you want to know what it looks like playing OGs at OT, then go watch some of the brutal OLs that Tressel had under his watch. Guys like Bryant Browning, Rob Sims and Kirk Barton becoming turnstiles playing OT. There's a reason there's a clear definition between the 2 positions. And we have enough guys to play OT and OG.
