tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I have. It's pretty much non-stop on Facebook from the "superfan" segment of the fanbase.

As for the Cotton Bowl, there has to be a threat of a downfield passing game in this era or you will lose. Badly.
Facebook is crazy. There a s#+t ton of nutty fans on there. Seem uneducated. There are also people pushing negative content for obvious clicks.

I don't like the slamming of the players. They don't deserve it at all.

Coaches should expect some push back. Comes with the boiler room that is the current state of affairs that is OSU football. However, it gets ridiculous.

Once OSU beats Scum again, it will all subside. I think some of what can be seen on social media is a by product of tribal animosity directed at Scum fans bragging. It's becoming super unhealthy.

College football is the only unhealthy part of social media. Everything else including political views come from a completely rational and civilized place. (Sarcasm)

I haven’t seen anyone rip Frye for whiffing on Sanders. We are ripping on him because he had so few offers out even after whiffing on most of his targets the last 2+ years and having few back-up plans……..while having coached probably the worst OL performance of my nearly 60 year life in the Cotton Bowl
I think you didn't fully understand my quote about Bentley. I'm saying why would he take a coaching position, when his job right now doesn't have the pressure of convincing young men to join his team. He has little to no outside pressure from millions of fans is my point.
And I've been on board with criticizing Frye for his lack of offers. Heck, I've been one of the main people beating that drum, and posting tweets about his offers compared to OSU's competition.

FB is the last place I'd go for any rational engagement regarding anything. That place is worse than 247/Bucknuts message boards :ohno:

I've burned the Cotton Bowl from my memory, similar to the Orange Bowl OSU was shut out against Clemson when Urban was the HC

And it works every time, Mike.....I am a sucker for the 'click bait' headlines. Must be true, my wife says so....I am taking unbelieveable grief from some Xichigan fans at course, and when I remind them that Hairball is 3-5 against our beloved Buckeyes, they ignore me. Or that they are 4-19 for the 24th century, same thing. (and I staunchly lived through 2-10-1 years). What rankles me is that tOSU is taking something out of the Wolverweenies playbook. Paying players to stick around for another year, hiring some ringers, and expecting a natti. Why didn't we think of that first? Go Bucks!

Givler had a couple of contrary points on the criticism that OSU/Frye is putting out too few offers to O-linemen.

(i) OSU had 28 offers out this year to out of state O-linemen, and missed on every one of them. They have a problem interesting OOS O-line recruits, and it's not going to be fixed by offering more of them.

(ii) While programs like Alabama and Georgia may be sending out 40+ offers to O-linemen, their commits are coming entirely from their top 5 to 10 guys. A lot of those 40+ offers are make-the-high-school-happy "offers."

I heard MG speak to this… and Birm also mentioned similar thoughts this week.

Not that I think that they disagree much, but they seemed so in line with each other that I wonder if they compared notes.

… or notes from the WHAC were provided.

Oh, no… nor did I mean to imply that it was. As a matter of fact, I think it was a “this is a bigger issue than Frye… and needs to be addressed as a bigger issue than one coach’s recruiting chops” issue…
It definitely seemed like it was a recruiting strategy angle issue for the OL, as well as Frye just not seeming to be a guy who has clicked with players. Because another point that MG made is, Tennessee was able to convince Sanders that they would be a better place to develop him for the NFL than OSU. I know that sounds insane to OSU fans, but essentially if you look at it in the aspect of sales. Frye isn't a good closer, and convincer of what OSU has done, and could do for their future. It honestly sounds like a sad theme for every OL coach OSU has had for a very long time...

I am going to see how the OL class plays out in '25 and success in the Portal when the time comes, and we may still get McFadden as an IOL. But I am of the opinion that even if we get McFadden that 3 OL is just deficient from a recruiting perspective. Unless we flip some OL (which could happen before early signing day), this OL class would be a bust despite landing two OL I really think highly of in Lowe and Cook due to numbers.

I think we all just see the writing on the wall for the '25 OL recruiting class because we have seen this movie before. Get 2-3 quality recruits, then have to reach on the remainder of the group.

Am thinking along the same lines. OL recruits will be watching to see how tOSU OL performs this year. If goes as well as the talking heads say in print, then some of these guys may rethink their position. If the 2024 version of the OL is beset by false starts, QB hurries, sacks, then they'll nod and say that they made a good decision to commit to X...having said that, do believe (nothing solid, just reading stuff) that there's some guys already in program that could be good. Someone closer to the program that actually sees practices would be better source, though. Kinda get tired of the 'flavor of the week' at RG, or a name from the unknown who is repping with the 2's. Yeah, am hoping that Lowe comes in and does well. PS, how could LeChuck coach our OL guys, when he's got a company that works with young linemen? Is it seasonal (summer?), or do the Cleveland kids come in and get schooled every weekend/after school? Go Bucks!:banger:

This is my worry as well, Frye going the Stud route to finish the class just to get numbers up to appease Day and the talking heads/fans. OSU doesn't need Grant Toutant types to just fill a roster spot.
