2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Going to give Herbie and the College GameDay crew the benefit of the doubt here. Regardless all the other ancillary stuff surrounding this recruitment, the NCAA rules are ridiculous.

Agree to disagree here. By his own words, Herbie assumed Parsons was a recruit. In my view, it's up to him to know how his job (for which he is paid a laughable amount) intersects with the NCAA rules so as not to F things up for his alma mater.

Baloney.

It's not up to Herbstreit to keep Ohio State compliant with NCAA regulations. It's Ohio State's job.

Give me a break. Pardon me if I'm not on board with my alma mater spending money having someone follow Herbie around so that buffoon doesn't land OSU in hot water.
I'm not giving you that break. It's not as though Herbstreit cruised Lane Avenue looking for recruits to taint with a violation. The reports indicate Terwilliger took the recruit to GameDay. Why is that Herbstreit's fault?

If you read between the lines, it's probably quite common for recruits to meet with Eddie, Kirk, Robert Smith, whoever...it's just one of those things where Kirk kind of acknowledged that they don't follow every stupid rule in the book. This time, however, the Bucks self-reported for reasons that LordJeffBuck mentioned: they wanted to gracefully bow out of the recruitment anyways.

OSU does indeed spend money on more than one individual who's jobis solely to follow recruits around so that they do not break NCAA rules.

I would be shocked if Herbie or Eddie George had any clue the stupid rule existed. In fact, we've all seen recruits post pictures on twitter with Eddie plus other past Buckeyes that are now media stars.

Evidently the rule must be so stupid that you can only get picture off the set not on it.

I'll tell you why--Herbie came to campus that day for the express purpose of lining his own pockets (he was there to do this job, after all). Herbie then decided to clown around with someone who, by his own words, he assumed was a recruit, likely knowing those pictures would make the rounds on social media or otherwise and promote his ridiculous brand. All of that was done for Herbie. So if that amounted to a recruiting violation, it's on him in my view. As I said before, I don't think the University should have to hire a handler for the guy just to be sure he doesn't stupidly violate a rule that'll hurt OSU while he's trying to promote his own interests.
