2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

What are the knee-jerk reactions to Coombs going to the NFL? How do we think the early signers will feel about this? Any kids we are recruiting between now and Feb 12th that could be negatively impacted?
I wouldn't expect any impact. Like said above, not really in on any secondary players. And as for the early signees, it's not like they were hiding this from anyone. Vrabel was hired last week and Coombs jumped at the chance for an NFL job when offered. I'm assuming Grinch will take on Coombs' role with the secondary, and he's well regarded for his work with the secondary.

Committed to Walsh University.

Tatarunas was a first team Division I all-Ohioan and co-winner of The News-Herald’s Tony Fisher Award after he threw for 3,424 yards and 31 touchdowns this past season.

Tatarunas said the Cavaliers won out for his services over a litany of other schools, including Robert Morris, Albany, John Carroll, Mount Union, Mercyhurst and Brown. He also had a preferred walk-on opportunity with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Meyer, Wilson and Day will be relieved to hear that. They were concerned about whether they had done the right thing or not.

Didn't know they were scouring BP for some hot takes, but I'll keep that in mind next time.

So that makes Washington who was viewed as a DB, this guy, the DB from VA, the 2 southern 5 stars we stopped in to see and it’s a lot of activity for that position group. And that somewhat surprises me due to the numbers we brought in last year and have in this cycle already. Sure seems to point to the staff knowing they have some attrition coming in the ranks. Plus with Coombs leaving you have some uncertainty with the group as well. Sure seems like there is something giving Urban some concern here.

I think it’s just them going for BPA. Would be one thing if we had a shot at any of them. But we don’t. Just swinging for the fences.

Bingo. The staff seems pretty intent on adding another DB it seems.

Edit: Didn't finish my thought. It would seem on the surface to be odd but even though we had a monster haul in '16 (Okudah, Wade, Pryor, Williamson, Riep, Sheffield), you have Ward leaving early, and we had some attrition in the classes before that between transfers and early departures (Norwood, Dean, Glover-Williams, Felder, Burns, Lattimore, Hooker). Plus Webb and Smith just graduated. So while there certainly is not some dire need at the position, getting one more for depth to add to Tyreke Johnson, Banks, Proctor and Hooker is not a bad idea, particularly at CB since many of those guys could project at safety.
