2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Looking at depth chart:

QB (1)
RB (1-2)
WR (1-2)
TE (1)
OL (2-3)
DE (1-2)
DT (2)
LB (2-3)
CB (1-2)
S (2)
K (0)
P (0)

That leaves us at 20, with some more room for making those late pushes for elite players. I don't think they'll need a K or P, and aside from that, I would like to see someone from each position listed. I would like to think we can afford to go without a TE next season, but if an elite player is available and interested, you take him.
Long Snapper - i know those are usually walk ons but sometimes they get schollys

Didn't really consider a LS. But I agree, more than likely a preferred walk-on. Even adding one LS on Schollie, that leaves 4 more openings for ridiculously high rated players. Should be another great class. Here's to hoping we can get a mammoth at DT in 2018.

OSU is favored for the #1 and #3 DTs for 2018, though neither would be considered mammoth. Matthew Jones may get to Wilson size, as he's 20+lbs lighter as a junior...

IIRC OSU has only had two scholarship Long Snappers in its history - and both were on the team at the same time (Haynes and McCullough).

I see them taking at last 1 TE in '18. Some are clamoring for 2. I was hoping for Ruckert and Gillison. Will be interesting to see if they still pursue Gillison.

OSU is good shape for Carman, Gill, Taylor, Tyreke Smith, Hawkins and Oats in-state but all will be hotly pursued. Gant will be a battle with ND, Blue Smith will be a battle with basketball. Others with a chance at an offer (besides the three committed to MSU) include Blaine Scott, Antwuan Johnson, Alex Riegelsperger and Brenden Bates.

Are there any ultra elite DT candidates from Ohio schools?
Not sure there is that true elite nose tackle, 1-tech everyone is looking for in-state. Aeneas Hawkins will have offers from everyone and could grow into that role but I see him more as a 3-tech at this point. Devan Rogers from Sidney has some early looks but is a little undersized, similar to Landers. Tyler Bentley from from Lakota West is a kid to keep an eye on...6-3 280 and some early offers like WVU, Maryland, Kentucky, UC, etc.

Just to weigh in on a couple things:

1) We definitely take a TE and my gut says we don't take two given how much Wilson seems to like the TE room...even past Baugh, he seems excited about Alexander, Hausmann and Farrell, all of whom are very young. That being said, I love Ruckert and I think he commits to the good guys sooner rather than later. However, if some of the other guys we have offered that seem to be a reach at this point want in (namely Brevin Jordan and Mustapha Muhammad), I don't see how we say no. Also, Leonard Taylor has at times been listed at TE, but I see him as a DE at the next level.

2) Blue Smith is almost a lock to go the football route...maybe not if you ask him during basketball season but last I heard, he was basically set on football at the next level. Either way, all Buckeye :)

Can't imagine we take less than 4 on the OL or less than 2 RBs.
