2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I may be in the minority here, but I hope we keep Jones, but he's not a make or break in this class. I much rather get the dominant DL(Smith and Oweh) and OL(Carman and Walker) than worry about Jones staying. NCs are won in the trenches, and I fully believe that Martell could be a future star and that Jones is more a luxury, IMO than necessity
That's how I feel... I know we love Haskins but something tells me Tate is going to make a push in the off season.

The offense is better with a mobile QB and that's Tates forte. No way Jones will want to stay put if a freshman is the starter

I still think that Haskins may be the starter next year, but I think Tate could seriously push Burrow. Haskins moves well enough with his legs and his arm is just too dynamic between the 3, especially with our weapons. The fact that we have 3 strong options at QB makes me not worry about Jones all that much. But surprised that Bama would be the option with an athlete at QB and another highly rated kid who will only be one year ahead of him. That Tuglovia kid may have that spot after Hurts leaving Jones with only 1yr as a starter, like at OSU.
Its his decision. But give me the big uglies and I'm content. With have enough QB talent for a few years and the 2019 and 2020 classes are setting up to be big for the Buckeyes at QB as well

I would have been fine not getting JT Barrett in 2013, because then maybe we would've taken Trubisky more seriously. He would have been legendary in Ohio State's system, as well. Same goes for Jones...he looks like he's good, but we would (will?) be fine without him. There's always someone else out there that actually wants to be a Buckeye.

Take a QB every class. Let the depth chart be sorted out on the field. Some one will transfer and boom depth is gone.
Yes, agreed, take a QB every class but it doesn't always have to be a 5star "elite 11" type kid(I'm not stating thats what you meant).

Punts has a good point. Give me elite trenches all day long considering our current QB depth. I mean I want Jones badly. But not as bad as I want dominant line play. I mean, we CAN have both though.
Not only that, but also what's being left out of this discussion is the RB talent being brought in lessening the need for a guy like Jones(who's wavering and flirting and knows he has leverage). As much as I'd still welcome Jones in this class, I'm fine with insert QB A, and knowing that our coaches will find a great pair and spare combo for the foreseeable future. And it helps hitting 2 home runs with studs(and great kids in general) in Teague and Snead

Its hard though to get a QB you like when you have kids that potentially are freshman or sophomores about to take the reigns...I want to see what Tate provides personally because he can run really well and more importantly the guy doesn't lose. He reminds of a player that everyone besides our fan base is going to hate because he just finds a way to be successful

Yep... Lots of cases of non 5* dudes being studs in college.. Just find the right one that fits what you want to do and has the right attitude.

see my note above, doesn't have to a be a high school stud. Just needs to be someone who gets the system and has the attitude.

I'm just a little annoyed by the anointment of every recruit (not directed at you but in general the board has a tendency to do a good amount of hyperbole and I'm guilty as well) and backup as the next OSU stud. Lets see what they do on the field. even if they dont see the field they are still buckeyes and I will root for their success

they're all back ups though... its not like I'm saying he's going to unseat JT or something. Literally next year we won't have a guy with extensive reps and in fact the guy with the most experience is probably Burrows. I'm not anointing anyone by any means I'm just saying I think his skill fits us a little more and I wouldn't be shocked to see him take over.

Haskins would probably have the most game experience now after being able to play against Army, Rutgers, Maryland and Nebraska. I'm sure he'll even see time against Illinois as well

I really don't want to miss on Jones...he has been an integral part of this class and is one of the best throwers I have seen on film. Throws an absolutely beautiful ball and would fit perfectly here. We'll live if he doesn't come here but that doesn't mean I (and our staff) don't really want him to wind up in Columbus.
