2018 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

I'll admit Browning was a stretch, but everybody else on that list was solid - Datish was 1st team all-B1G & Sims started over 100 games in the NFL. Both of those guys did well at multiple positions for OSU.

As for only naming 5 guys in 10yrs... this is Meyer's 6th year at OSU. Name 1 versatile Meyer recruit who has started at OG & OT.
Valid points. Meyer has only had guys slide from OG to C. Though I think this narrative MAY change in the next few years with guys like Bowen, Jordan, Myers and Davis

A plausible Ohio State Class of 2018 (revised 27 August 2017). Added WR L'Christian Smith (predicted); deleted DE Andrew Chatfield (decommit) and WR Cameron Brown (Nebraska). Glad to be right on Smith and wrong on Chatfield and Brown, as both seem to be half a notch below what Ohio State is currently recruiting. I'm not going to add any new names to the list just yet, but I'm keeping an eye on OG Jamaree Salyer, OT Nicholas Petit-Frere, LB Solomon Tuliaupupu, WR Amon-Ra St. Brown, DT Michael Thompson, and WR Jahan Dotson.

Not sure Carman is going to end up at OSU or Clemson. I never would have thought that just a few weeks ago. Looks like USC might be the current hot pick so we shall see. Seems like the OU loss also had a pretty big recruiting impact with Parsons and Carman....for obvious reasons with what went down last week with the twitter drama.

MD, methinks that you're a glass half-full type of person. Hope you're right. I kinda think that Herbie is acting like the 5* that he professes is full of himself, as he doesn't like to be have his opinion questioned. Hopefully this young man has learned a lesson - support the team recruiting you, because if you badmouth one, the others will look and say :" if he'll do it to them, he'll do it to us." (Carmen, I'm still learning how to keep my mouth under control, and I'm waaay older than you are). Go Bucks!

Not at all. Clemson, USC and any team in the nation would turn a blind eye to his comments and accept him with open arms. Dont be fooled by that BS

Very correct. Clemson and USC are in a similar position that Florida was when urban was there. Take the best talent reguardless. Not saying carmen isn't someone I'd like to see a buckeye (I do). Just saying the Ohio states and bama of the world can skip a talented guy that they think could hurt the locker room. Clemson is a tier 2 school that is trying to be a tier 1. They used to be tier 3 and worked their way up, but it takes longer than 5 years of relevance to be a top tier program (see Oregon and Stanford and Baylor and tcu and ole miss and all of those programs that come out of nowhere and dominate only to loose it quickly) USC is a tier 1 that is in a rough spot and is desperate. They will take anyone. Florida was a tier 2 program when urban arrived and it took some iffy athletes to make it to the top. Now the are a perennial 3-4 loss. If dabo leaves the same thing happens to Clemson. So they will take risks to stay there.

That said I don't think anything is wrong with what carman said and should be a take provided nothing else happens.

The difference between Clemson and the other schools you mentioned is that Clemson has an NC on their campus and has put a bunch of players in the NFL. They are most Certainly a tier 1, and they too can choose to pass on Carman, but talent can trump a lot of off field issues (I.e. Joe Mixon, James Robinson, etc). Recruiting is many times a risk-reward trade off. Bama has towed that line for years and will definitely stay in the chase for this kid as will USC, Clemson and I'm sure OSU.

I'm kinda thinking Smith to PSU and Oweh to the Good Guys. Parsons.....cloudy. Seems to have cooled mightily but it's sort of ironic the staff seems to still be pursuing Carman with a longer drama and no apology post OUgate. Guess the Parsons background makes it more telling but seems weird to me.

My wish list in importance is:

OT- NPF (I'm a bad speller)
CB - Cook, got to have shut down corners at all times. The expected drop off this year sucks.
WR- Babb, still feels like we need legit WRs not speedy converts. With a major bounty of QBs and the OL looking to improve, just need some good route runners to make the offense click.
OT- Carman, yeah of course I want him but if NPF was in the fold he would fall to 4 on my list. But I'd love 3 OT types in the class.
DE- Oweh, major upside and seems like solid head on his shoulders.
DE - Parsons, yeah I'd take him in a heart beat and I think Smith with head to PSU.
DT - Togiai, win in the trenches and you are always in contention. Getting Vincent and Jackson is huge already but this team will REALLY his Dre'mont next year. Sprinkle and Hill will be missed too (Hill is still a Buckeye right?) but losing Dre'mont will be a major hit.
