tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Nebraska's wr history is irrelevant.
It became so when Riley became HC.

Look I wasn't as enthralled with Lyndsey as most.
I put little credence into the stupid 7 on 7 circuit.
Given his size, injury history and our recent track record with smurfs.

It's obvious Lyndsey formed a bond with the Corn wr coach.
And there were rumors of friction with Tate.
At least he didn't wait until signing day.

I wish him well.
New coach for Nebraska means we throw out the record books.

New coach/offense for Ohio State means?

Agree with many that the depth chart talking point by Nebraska does not carry the level of influence for drastic turn around change of former commitment.
Two factors would seem to be more credible.
1. Relationship between Lindsey and TM has been fractured and
2. Osu is vulnerable to negative recruiting by assistants " exposing " new O.C. Wilson allegations of putting his former players at risk.
Lost in all of this is the fact that the Nebraska QB commit played on the 7on7 circuit with Lindsey as his QBand they got close. The amount of CA kids going to Nebraska attracted him as well as the WR coach. Riley has CA ties and that paid off. Also seeing the field almost immediately in some capacity appealed to Tyjon

Didn't Reilly coach Brandon Cooks at Oregon St?
Cooks is a sub 6 footer whom I believe went in round 1.

My point is that making a point using the historical data is misleading.

It is very misleading. Let's name all of the other WR who were drafted during Riley's 11 years at Oregon State.

Sammie Stroughter
Markus Wheaton

That's it. 11 years and 3 WR drafted in the NFL. Having had Brandin Cooks is like that dude at the bar who always hooks up with 3s except for that ONE night where he lands a 7 because she's so drunk, she leaves the bar and climbs in to the wrong car. Freak occurance.

Let's add Nebraska.

Qunicy Enunwa was drafted in 2014, Riley's first year at Nebraska but we'll credit him with it.
Kenny Bell (if we are counting practice squad)

Those are the only Nebraska WR in the NFL.

End of list. So yeah, Nebraksa's WR history is irrelevent since Riley arrived, because it has always been irrelevent to begin with.

Think we've probably talked enough about Lindsey in this thread, so I'll just sum it up. He was a Buckeye, really wanted to be one for a while, switched to Nebraska late for a reason we still don't know. He has had a lot of injuries, he's small, he's really freaking explosive when healthy. Oh, and Nebraska sucks with or without Riley. Anyhow, best of luck to Lindsey at Nebraska and we all hope you develop into an NFL receiver!

So, moving on, how does this class finish up? Really hope we land Wilson or Tufele, but it looks like not. So is that it on the D Line? Any more wideouts/athletes we are expecting to land or pushing hard for? For the need of a tackle is Munford as good as in? Kind of feels like this is going to finish with a bunch of swing and misses. I recall Martell promising 2 maybe 3 more 5 stars to join the class. Since then it's only been Okudah (who is awesome).

I'd really like to see them go all in on Wilson and get every staff member on him. At least IMO you don't reach on anyone at this point even if you think a kid like Munford can give you depth.

No sense in reaching to close out 17' we will want every possible scholly available for the next couple classes.

Says right now the current roster and current commits puts us at 3 over. I look at the list of current players and see 2 more players getting the talk and transferring, and I assume Collier will jump into the grad assistant role coaching QBs. That would put us even. There are probably a couple of medicals.

SO with that I'm hoping we don't lose anyone else and finish with Munford and go all in on Wilson.

Is Munford a take though or he getting a scholarship because we just need an extra body? Ellison to me is not a OSU talent after watching his film.

I'd like to see them just bank them if they can't get kids they feel can start for us one day. Otherwise we hear about these kids transferring in a couple years in order to make room for more stud players lol.. May as well break that trend now

Boy would I love to see a Taylor Decker type flip for an OT late in this cycle. We don't have a new OL coach coming aboard that can bring someone over but would love to see some kind of flip in the works. For all the DT talk, it amazes me how much more we need a OT or RB. Both positions depth are borderline critical.

Look I know there are a ton of people concerned about OT... I trust that urban has a plan, if he and Stud feel they need another OT they will get the best guy they can. Same with RB.

Sometimes in recruiting you have to take a chance on some guys if it's late in the game sometimes it works out sometimes it doesn't However you know the chances of the coach banking a scholarship is next to 0. Its big time football. We might not like it or feel comfortable but it's life.
