tOSU Recruiting Discussion

In my eyes, the only sure-fire tackles are Myers and Carman. Only guys locked in on the interior are Davis, Salyer, and Wohlabaugh. Everyone else from '16-18 is versatile enough to go anywhere. Of course this would assume some commits not on board yet but to get back on direct topic, the '17 OL class leaves us with the ability to be extremely selective. Myers, Moretti and Davis is as good of an OL class as you could ask for to follow up the '15 and '16 classes.

Is has to be Lindsay, Grimes, Okudah, Akers, and Tufele at this point... I just don't see us landing Browning, Holmes, DPJ, or Trey Smith. And honestly, I doubt all 5 of those I listed commit to us, opening up a spot for Harris or maybe even Bowden. Am I crazy for this?

Its recruiting in the Meyer era, nothing you wrote is crazy! But I wouldn't write"has to be" with regards to any recruits with this staff. Because we COULD very well get Holmes/Browning/Hines to fill a spot and not one person should be surprised. Urban has been known to pull some big time recruits from thin air(I.e. KJ Hill, Dontre Wilson, Keandre Jones, Dwayne Haskins, etc)

Your point is valid and not to split hairs but Haskins was hardly out of left field. The kid has always wants to be a Buckeye. The right opportunity to follow through just presented itself.

Yes, but for most of the recruiting cycle he was an afterthought. And his recruitment picked up quickly, and it did seem out of left field though he always wanted to be a Buckeye.

Those two were possible Buckeye leans which are now more competitive.

Some of the others were never coming here or very long shots.

Agree with both points. I just wouldn't discount either quite yet....just as I wouldn't put either in the same category as Grimes, Lindsey or Okudah.

With the class looking more likely to add Akers or Dobbins, instead of both, I wonder if that will open up a spot for the staff to pursue more elite players at other positions(i.e. Tufele, Hines/Browning, Harris, Holmes) or would they still want 2 RBs in this class and go after say Morgan Ellison later in the process(say January or February)

I've gone on record saying another elite DT in this class like Tufele is big for me. I also want Akers AND Dobbins very badly. Having said that if an Akers commit pushes Dobbins out I would be comfortable with 1 RB this class. Especially with Snead already in for '18. Take a 2nd RB next year I guess since the staff would have so long to work on it.
